The new system is a way for them to force us to buy coins. My golly they already limited the ss give away to 5 ss then now 1 fast pass which just opens 1. This used to be a good app for reading because it allows those like us to earn decent amounts of ss to read. Now its shit and I dknt even think id want to read here.
The new system is shit.
Its like P2W game mate.
RedEmpress18 You get 3 fast passes/free chapters a day if you check in and vote (es/ps), not only 1.
I get 3 a day, I try to focus on my writing and let my fast passes build up so I can have a nice break reading something:)
The site is good as far as getting handed things for free this isn't California it's a website operating in a capitalist run world.
Not only do they have a good system to buy membership, coins. THEY PAY NOVELISTS WITH THE MONEY THEY MAKE.
It isn't just a give me all your money platform.
Slewis There's a difference between being money hungry and making money out of necessity, they've changed it to the new system to reduce the amount of chapters people are able to read and if they want to read more than three chapters a day they have to pay for it. Ads are okay, allowing the purchase of extra reading privileges is also okay, but limiting the amount people can read even further is low. It's capitalistic and greedy to the point where they keep changing the system only to ensure they can wring the most money out of users while not giving a crap about the people who use the site.

I don't like this system but the free passes add up to 10 to 30 stones per. I don't see where you're getting less from. That's more then what they gave away with free stones unless you like ultra-short chapters worth 5 stones? I'm used to spending 20-30 stones on one long chapter on certain novels so the passes usually can have way more value.
Daoist011627 I have yet to come across anything that prevents me from reading more than three a day, maybe i just don't see it as a problem. Just read new novels for a few days and build your Fast-passes up like I do? It honestly is not a big deal in my opinion... We live in a capitalistic world so i guess the sooner you come to terms with that the less you will stress. I write and read using WN and I am not hindered other than just saving Fast-Passes up.
Hjkoi Exactly, why would anyone want to use a pass when something is on discount? But then again, only fast passes are being given out and not free coins, and that's why people are hating on this new system. Whereas one could buy five 3-coin chapters with 15 free SS before, they're now forced to settle for three chapters. It's easy to call something greed when you don't understand it.

Maybe because buying coins is not hard and not that expensive if you don't overdo it? I did say in my first post that I didn't like this system in the first place but people who want everything free without giving anything themselves are just as garbage as this site's business practices.

This site isn't free, at the bare minimum it has ads like most websites do, that means that people aren't reading for free since the site is getting money for them reading. Calling people garbage for wanting free things is idiotic, I'm not saying that I want everything on this site for free I'm saying that I don't want to be forced to pay for everything. There a restriction on the amount of ads you can watch, webnovel is still earning money from the ads and would still earn money if people watched more to read more. But they restrict the amount you can watch and the amount you can gain because they want more money on top.
Honestly the only reason this site is thriving and the only reason people still use it is because they've built a monopoly on the majority of the online light novels, new novels and other reading materials that are online. It affects writers/translators positively (I think) because they can get money for writing/translating rather than pretty much working for free or not much, but compared to what light novels in particular used to be where people were paid less for translating but novels weren't gathered up on a site like this one it's become quite bad for online users who don't have money to throw at things like extra chapters or premium novels.

I should have worded it properly. I think that people who expect the site to be a charity is garbage(well, it's probably not much better lol). Also, Ads don't bring in enough income to be sustainable so them going away from that makes sense.
Like the other person said that they still want to use passes or free coins when the chapters are only 1 or 2 coins per, that's just way too ridiculous to me. 5 to 10 dollars will give you 100s of chapters and you're too cheap for that? I worked at minimal wage when I was younger and was still able to pull that out of my budget.
Their best system was the monthly membership that was like Kindle Unlimited, too bad they were too dumb to properly distribute income. Also, with them having us double pay for the privilege system too made me lose a lot of faith for this company but I'm still going to support translators and authors I like even though I don't agree with the company itself.

I never read short chapters because novels with chapters that short usually do not have much depth, the author has to skip out on to much to make it work. I was only commenting on my perspective, obviously. I'm a lover of in-depth world-building and characterization, short chapters usually murder these two...
Daoist011627 The app can be completely free if you want it to be. There are no ads that you must watch.
LazyDeath if the completed novel is privilege and the chapters aren't releasing, try to contact the translator or I guess most people just @ cktalon. Maybe email support@webnovel.com because they will respond to emails. The translator needs to mark the novel as complete for the privilege chapters to become available to the general audience.
Hjkoi even Kindle Unlimited doesn't do a great job distributing income to authors. I'm pretty sure that authors only get a few cents (if that) per read through the KU program. This is fractions of the ~30% cut that they get through an outright purchase. The same did happen to authors here when they introduced the subscription program.

So your pretty sure, it must be fact then. Authors wouldn't use it if it was that completely broken unless they're idiots. I looked it up myself and it comes to $1.30 for a 50k word book(it fluctuates monthly). That's a lot from a source of people who wouldn't have bought a certain book without unlimited. I did the same on this site, giving web novels a chance that I normally wouldn't. Most translators who made the biggest deal about it were the ones who weren't regular on their releases too and I doubt Webnovel was close to efficient with their system. I can even imagine people who try to be completely free actually giving in and spending money when they normally wouldn't. I'm sure short term sucked but as of long term, it should have worked after quite a bit of refining. It's sadly common for Chinese businesses to focus on the short term benefits, anyway.
