Well, we've all seen it. It's everywhere, it's super popular... But why are there so many stories with that being it's crux?
There's undeniably a market for it so I can't knock people too hard for trying to get in on it, but come on!
If you can make these worlds they get taken to, why not just have all the characters be a part of that world? People can emphasize with characters and enjoy them without that direct link.
Transmigration
R3v3nant not sure if I understand well what you mean but ig people have always liked the 'fish out of water' trope and transmigration takes it to a next level
(yea Im also guilty of writing a transmigration story)
Because it's versatile I think. Transmigrations story is quite lacking in limitation as far as I can tell.
If it were for me, i like this kind of story where I can relate to the protagonist's life. He/she wanted to run away from his former life or he/she wasn't really happy with what their has. And, when they were given a chance to change it all, of course, they will accept it. For me, I love to see the clash between knowledge from two different worlds, different understanding, and morality. If you were given power, what will you do with it? If you are weak, what do you want to do to change it, if you are living in a new life that is worst than your former world, will your belief changes? What will happen to your personal belief? Are you going to change your fate and lead a better life, or will you give up and change to an evil path?
I'm here for the adventure, imagination, fantasy, psycology, and philosophy of a human when facing a death or alive situation.
I personally am a big fan of transmigration. There are very few limitations on how you design a world. And the reader learns about the world through the eyes of the MC, so often, transmigration is all about how well one can self-insert into the role of the MC.
I watch a lot of isekai anime that does this, so that's why a lot of them have MCs that are relatable or even go as far as being a blank slate for easier self-insertion.
My love for this genre is pretty much why I've been writing a WN story with that theme for the past months.
R3v3nant It makes it easy for the author to compare something to a real object on earth to a fantasy trope making it easier to help readers visualize. Also, make some jokes which the mc could only pull off because he was from earth otherwise the story in another world would be kinda hard to pull off.
