Veronica8 Writing to tropes is a good thing. If I'm reading a mystery novel I'm going to get irritated if there is no mystery to solve. It's what we do with tropes that makes our work unique. With my fantasy book I am putting my own twist on fantasy tropes like the noble elf, halflings that can't really fight, that sort of thing. I'm also using the Gods and Goddesses from Finland because well, how often do you see the names Ukko and Kuu tossed around in a book? (Plus my family is from Finland, so there's that lol)
If you can twist tropes and cliches into tasty pretzels so much the better!
