Phew. I'm glad this thread didn't get locked.
Writing is for everyone
EroJaki but unfortunately, some readers think the authors are Co-authors who work free to make them happy.
Yeah, I literally have readers telling me, "I didn't come here to read this/that!" And I'm like, okay, but I didn't come here to write something you want to read. Or people who accuse me of using misleading titles, and then curse and swear at me when I explain that they kind of missed the point of the story. Sigh.
In respect to comments, I do listen to everyone. But the difference is that I am free to choose what criticism to take heart to. Sometimes, a person that doesn't like your writing might have a point to consider.
Maybe, I did something wrong. Or, maybe I did make something too tropey or overused. Your target audience might like it and overlook it, but the opinion of a non-fan is just as intriguing.
If they are flaming me, that tells me the type of person they are and what interests them. Then I think, "would this actually be more interesting or is he just bitter about the result?"
Sharp criticism, rather than continuous approval, is what makes a person grow and become more open-minded. I take sharp criticism to heart. I don't get offended. But at the same time, it doesn't linger on my mind. It doesn't hold me back from writing how I want.
EroJaki Yes, you are absolutely right!

Constructive criticism allows you to improve the novel. It gives new outputs, methods, allows you to evaluate your story from different angles, it begins to shine differently. The text is filled with life-giving ideas and makes the novel more fun. I like this as an author!
But here it is worth distinguishing criticism. Criticism can be sharp if the critic is reasoned. Before criticizing, you need to familiarize yourself with how to write it correctly.
Fortunately, everyone has Google and you can find the necessary information.
But in no case should you scold or criticize the author. You can only criticize the novel.
Offtopic (but still related to the topic) - atheists of the Communists have a concept of inner conscience and a believer has a concept that it is impossible to offend a person, this is a sin.
Of course, these are ideal concepts. Everyone is not perfect. But if you offended someone in vain, you can always repent, ask him for forgiveness.
I don’t understand at all how to call a stranger an unpleasant, degrading epithet.
Does such a critic have no conscience? Or is it such a game? To bring a person, especially a writer, so that he does not want to write?
I understand that there is black PR, custom-made companies of various other groups. But why?
Freedom of speech, freedom of thought - all this is very cool. But there are concepts of ethics, culture, different traditions. Yes, and just be a decent person. This means being responsible for your words.
I am more than sure that if every user had - the real name, first name, passport number and its registration, he would not say complete rubbish. Since it was not hidden by the curtain - imaginary anonymity.
Freedom of speech ends when it violates the rights of another. Plus, we are not in the USA, this is an international platform, here the rules of social dormitory apply.
You can speak out about any topic, you have the freedom of speech, but this does not mean that you or I can carry nonsense and swear.
I also understand that all people are different, differently understand what freedom of speech is.
But even in the West you have such concepts as watered correctness, tolerance, then why don't you use them to communicate on the network?
If the boorish critics tried to behave this way with the employer, I’m sure that freedom of speech would not help. He would be fired for inconsistencies with the job description. But here is the Internet, can you afford to relax and doused everyone with sewage? But this does not lead to creation, but only destruction.
I hope my English makes it clear the main point - readers and critics of IMHO - should respect each other. And everything else is lyrics.
thank
Tomoyuki
You're great!
Tomoyuki
You're great!
Art is very subjective, and naturally writing too. How an author wrote can be interpreted differently by different target audience. I myself had written some stories, got critics, praises, or just some passerby (Not in this account, tho >.< [too lazy to switch account])
I agree with Tomoyuki. Success can be interpreted differently for every author.
For me at the beginning, just having someone, no matter how few there were, still follow the story is already good enough. I don't write for everyone since It's not possible to make story that everyone liked and only a few of them will like it (which is why there's the thing called target audience). I love writing and obviously, I don't want to stop just because of some haters.
Critics hurt for sure, but it's also through them that I noticed some plot holes, helps in grammar, gives more ideas, or well, some just say that they dislike certain theme, so it means the story is not for them. I can't possibly listen to every critics because I want to write for myself too, a story that I loved.
Commitment is not easy, but I have fun in writing, so I tried to make sure I can reach my target in writing.
And what makes it fun to share the writing is seeing the comments from readers. Even if there's only one reader commenting 'thank you for the chap,' it continues to give motivation to continue. Sometimes, thinking that there are at least a reader waiting for more chapters make me want to continue writing.
I have never been abused harshly in the comments, so I can't say that I know what many had gone through. Even if I did receive haters who dislike my story and spammed, I tried not to let it into my heart. It hurts to read those comments, but thinking that there are also readers who enjoyed the writing help me to pick up pen....(eh, wait, I mean laptop) and type the story again.
So for other authors out there, keep fighting. Don't let those haters influence you and make you quit. If you love writing, continue to write for yourself and also readers out there. Even if it's just a small number, there might be someone out there who will like your story.
Writing is a journey and by writing more and more, it'll improve little by little. Believe in yourself :)
PS: Did I sound over optimistic? Hopefully not O.o
Also, I think my grammar is still all over the place...
FengHua 1.5 years ago I wrote worse in English, now it’s a little better. But the path to good English is still a long way. You said amazingly - what to write this journey! Wow!
Only the practice of writing texts can make a beginner's job better. What am I doing now.
Thanks for the interesting thoughts!
Thank you all for good thoughts and recommendations!

Also, thank you very much for all the comments and recommendations!
I myself do not write any works of art, because I have not enough imagination. But I have always been interested in reading articles and essays. I like their structure and fullness. I took https://writingbros.com/essay-examples/environmental-issues/ as a basis and tried to write something similar. I will not say that I succeeded, but the material there is good. I learned a lot of new and exciting things. I encourage you to read about environmental issues. This is an important question that everyone should know.
It took me some time to locate a reputable online gallery from which to buy a painting. However, I did discover a canvas wrap here at hobbit map . A broad variety of pieces of art in every color and style are available. Recently, I bought a picture from them, and I was pleased with how swiftly it arrived. I advise you to make use of their offerings.
