So I understand this website is aimed at mostly the Chinese audience; that I have no issue with. My question is how safe is this website in general? I don't mind writing and would be quite thrilled to gain a little extra income from my writing! I'm from england, would I be able to? And if I do, how safe our my bank account details on this website?

    1. This website is aimed at International audience interested in translated Chinese novels. Webnovel is banned in China so they can't aim it at Chinese audiences. But Webnovel is a subsidiary of Yuewen, which is a Chinese company under Tencent.

    2. There are many authors from Europe publishing here on Webnovel and earning Royalties from their work. If your novel does well and fits their requirements, they will offer you a contract.

    3. About how safe your bank details are on this site. They need you to fill this form and there's nothing in it that can compromise your bank account.

    Bank Form

It is similar to you working for someone and then giving them your Bank's account number and other general information required for a deposit. It's as safe as that.

Other than that is the Contract Verification which requires a Scanned Copy of a Government Issued Photo ID of yourself, if you are older than 18, or your parent, if you are below 18. Obviously, the Photo ID will have your address, and the contract form you need to fill will also require you to put your address and other such information somewhere on there. But that's standard for all legal contracts.

They won't ask you to put your bank's log in and other such information anywhere, and if they do, burn the contract and let the wind blow away its ashes.

Moreover, the entire communication between your computer and their servers is encrypted using a standard SSL Certificate so no one should be able to spoof your data as it moves to and fro.

As for how safe your ID card's information and other contract-written information is, after it's on their servers... Well, you can contact service@webnovel.com and ask them to give you details of how they process and store author information. Whether they answer the query or not is another matter.

Josephine_Reeve Hey i'm from england and earn from this site. like any job the only thing you have to give them is your account number. and Bic or swift code so they can send money into your account.

The only thing they can do with this information is send you money. As said above Tencent is one of the biggest companies in the world never mind just china. So your information is as safe as it is with any other big company.

And even if it did get leaked the only thing they could do is send you more money with that information.

JKSManga I think it's safe...after all they are targeting a whole lot of audiences around the globe. But still, you can contact them. I don't think I have given them any information which I shouldn't. When I signed up, I remember giving my ID and bank account no. Branch name, swift code...etc..

As for JKS Manga, loved your work. My Vampire System is awesome...and what's even awesome is your art..loved the art in Dark Web...will definitely love to see the My Vampire System Comic...

ThyUnknownSaint For transfer references or some other information regarding the transaction.

The information is probably passed to the receiver's bank and/or the sender's bank to process the payment accordingly.

Certain banks have certain other requirements depending on where the receiver and/or sender are located.

It's optional and you don't need to put anything in there unless necessitated by your bank.

I just want to thank everyone for their replies! You have put my mind at ease, so thank you; and I learnt something today.

I look forward to contributing to the novel community!

JKSManga that's not true. Anyone could also request and AIC withdrawal with a swift code and account number, which generally takes 3 days to process, so you should check your accounts frequently for strange behavior. I forget the amount of time you have to reverse an unauthorized AIC withdrawal, but it probably also depends on the bank.
