  • I have a couple of questions about the contract offer

Recently, I was offered a contract for my novel that I posted for a WPC. It only has a few chapters posted so far, less than 20, and it doesn't have daily updates either.
1) Do contract-signed books have to have daily updates? I've seen a lot of people get contract offers for daily-updated books, but I'm not sure if that is a requirement.
2) How do I know if the contract is exclusive or not?
3) [If the answer to question #1 is yes] Is it possible to postpone signing a contract? If it needs daily updates, I'd want to postpone signing until I reach a point to where I can update a new chapter every day.

WPC winners are offered with Exclusive contracts right? I update 2-3 chaps a week hehe. I'm still under verification.

You can postpone it, the contract will always be there. I’m not signing the contract for one of my stories that won wpc, and the contract has been there (on my inkstone), sitting for a couple weeks now.

I'd also like some help/information about a contract offer, including the answers to the questions you asked, @RJMidnight . Most of the FAQs or other threads on this topic have stated that I should ask other contracted authors on the Discord, but I've been a member for a week, and I've been unable to post much due to lockouts for almost the entire time.

That is weird. Have you joined the inkstone discord?
(Go to inkstone, then hit the stack thing above the inbox then the ‘join the discord.’)
If you have joined it, you should be able to use the newbie channel, if you haven’t verified yourself yet, and ask your questions (they do have a slowdown mode to not have people blowing up so the newbie helpers can help them).
That is how I learned about a few things in the beginning. (I joined webnovel this year, in late august).
There shouldn’t be lockouts for the newbie channel.

Sylvrain With the contract, you're selling all commercial rights of your work to Webnovel. It's exclusive, in the sense that you can't post your story because you don't have the right to do so without webnovel's approval (other than on webnovel's site, of course). They offer only exclusive contracts, if you want to sign a non-exclusive, you have to contact another agency that will publish the story for you. You will still retain the rights, including posting it anywhere you want.
You don't have to update daily. It's only necessary for MGS, i.e. a system that ensures you 200$ a month for 4 months if you publish more than 1.500 words daily, no matter the income from the novel. You should read about MGS on the faqs, it's explained more in detail.
If you don't update daily, your readers might be unhappy to wait and it might keep new readers away. However, there isn't anything on the contract about publishing daily.
You can sign the contract and go premium only when you're ready (source: I've signed the contract, it's active, I'm not premium yet. I'm waiting for a sign from heavens ehe).

RJMidnight I am a member of the discord, and it's the newbies channel that is locked. Has been for over 24 hours, this time. I'm reaching out to individual contracted authors to see what help they can provide while the channel is locked.

That is weird. I wondered why they locked it. And okay, it is best to ask your questions to someone with a contract.
I don’t know all the answers to it since I rejected mine and didn’t look through it. And some stuff I got from the newbie helpers that are contracted and other stuff from this forum. There are a bunch of old threads about the contract on(some of them end up in arguments).

            Sylvrain
They tell you to update daily in order for them to send out the contract which takes two weeks or a little over it.
You don’t have to update daily in order to get it. I always skipped a day or two(cause everyone has a personal life, they cannot stop life to update daily), and they still gave me the contract.
As long as you don’t abandon your story and take days to update, you are good.

And when you are contracted, you don’t have to update daily unless you are doing the MGS where you do have to update daily with a total of 1500 words to get $200 each month, the first four months.(you cannot go less than 1500 words or you won’t get it). After that, you don’t have to update daily.
(I know readers would want you to update daily, but readers need to understand that writers/authors do have lives and things going on.)
