If you are on discord, you can see that the staff told everyone how new novels go. They said nothing about views. They state that the person has to reach 4K words on their story for the vetting to start; it is first come, first serve and if you publish on the weekend, it takes longer. Look at the announcements on the discord, it is stated there.

I seen many novels, mine included, accepted by the vetting process in two days (once it reached 4K words) with barely any views.

The staff started vetting new novels to stop spamming and making sure people follow the guidelines. That is why novels go without the powerstones (voting) for a couple to few days.

I don’t know where some of you are getting this false information.
Views have nothing to do with a new novel not having the voting option yet.

It is a vetting process to make sure the person is following WN guidelines on writing. Once the person reaches 4K words, the vetting process starts and it will take a few days. Sometimes longer if they publish in the weekend because the staff does not work over the weekend.

Views have nothing to do with it; that is false. Also reaching 4K does not automatically give you voting options. It all depends on if the staff is not busy with other things and get the vetting done quickly.

        Your information is wrong.
Once you have 4K words, the vetting of your new story will start which can take a couple to a few days, depending if you published it during a weekday or weekend.
You do not get it automatically at 4-5k words.
They have to check your book to make sure it is following the guidelines once it hits 4K words, that is why it takes a while.
Views have nothing to do with it.
Also ranking starts when your book reaches 15k words and the vetting is completed.

Amazon never did that to me when I put a book I made here to Amazon. And it was free here while the book is $1.99 there. I had it on WN for two months and Amazon did nothing like that. I only took it down because I joined KDP Direct and with KDP Direct, you are only allowed to have 10% of your book out in other platforms.

They only time you have to post a chapter everyday with 1.5k words is when you decide to do MGS for $200 (it is only a four month thing and optional). Other than that, post whenever you want.

        • This is three years old. I’m pretty sure the person who made the post is not looking anymore

I’m so-so on the ratings because I read a few with high ratings that was not for me or I couldn’t see how it was popular.

Other than that, sometimes the rating on NU, I can agree with.

            • Wolfick
I don’t fully trust reviews on NU cause some are biased on a few characters and when I read the story, I don’t see what they are seeing and feel like I’m reading a different story from them.
So I pay attention to the summary and tags. I’m actually picky on some novels from there and don’t understand the real popular ones.

Not all the males who read BL are straight, but some are. There are articles over it where straight males do read BL, most don’t read the ones with all the smut, but like the ones where plot is the main thing; like the Chinese yaoi novels.
Even if you don’t really believe it, it happens.

                • Loserboi
The BL genre was made for the female audience because they are the ones who read it the most. That is why there are a few fudanshi (who are either straight, bi, or gay. Most fudanshis are actually straight) but a ton of fujoshis.
To be honest, some gay males don’t like yaoi because it is fluffy with bishounen man and sometimes don’t put the gay community in a nice light (yaoi tends to have a lot of rape in its mangas) or show unrealistic things.
Some gay men lean towards Bara rather than yaoi.

I’m not bashing yaoi, I love it (I read BL stories 24/7) but men still want manliness in a story and yaoi doesn’t really give off that feeling.

You need 4K words to start the vetting process.
It only takes a few days, sometimes longer if staff is busy.
If you start a new story on the weekend, it does end up longer cause staff does not work on the weekend.

(Once you reach 15k words, you will enter the rankings once some one starts voting on your story.)

                    • Renegade_God
No, they need 4K words for the vetting process to start.

15k words is when they can enter the rankings once people start voting on their story.

You said this is a suggestion post but you added “in the meanwhile, does any shonen writers want to review swap?” which takes away from the suggestion and creates a review swap post.

If you have a suggestion, ask the moderator about this and if it would be okay to have.

                        • Craig_Watson
I know you don’t want to get certain genres on review swaps but please do know that review swaps outside of the designated discussion is not allowed.
The moderator can have your account suspended for a few days on the forum (although you will only end up with a warning the first time and after, if you keep doing it, then it’s that).

                          • Not trying to be rude here or start a fight cause I’m honestly curious on what a “true writer” means to you.

Because a “true writer” must not be an adult or is rolling in money to sit there and write all the time.

I’m not saying authors are greedy and all they want is money (I’m a writer too). But they do want their book out there while sharing it to the world and making the money from their craft is great too. Because as an adult, you have a lot of bills to pay; you still have to make a living to eat, to travel, to keep clothes and your body clean, to go to university (if you chose to), to fix unexpected problems, etc.

We cannot seat here and write without asking for some support (even when we have a RL job) because we still have to survive in the real world.

So seeing you say “true writers don’t do..” it irks me a bit.
