So I was given a Webnovel offer like months ago, but only recently got the main royalty contract. I would really like to sign it, but my caregiver doesn't agree with me selling my rights and only getting 50%. But I really do want to be in the paid author program. Do anyone know how long the contract has been installed? Cause I'm thinking of waiting until I'm no more a minor and finally signing it.
But if anyone has any tips on convincing a parent with finality in their words, please give it to me.

Ofure join the discord and they debunk this myth. They don't steal your work apparently.

Ofure When you sign the Royalty Contract it means that you are giving Webnovel the full exclusive right to your book. It means that you can no longer publish 'Premium' Chapters in other web fiction websites nor can you publish your book in Amazon Kindle if you have any plans. You are giving up those rights in exchange for the money that you can potentially earn here.

If you publish daily at the required word count (1500 words) then you can earn the Minimum Guarantee System of $200 for up to four months. And for a certain number of authors, that might just be the only earning you'll taste if the book doesn't do well. If it becomes popular, then you'll earn much more :)

Maybe you can explain, "Writing is an activity/hobby that I like to do, if I can earn some money with it... won't that be nice too?"

(I'm not that too good at explaining, so if someone better than me hops in, listen to them heh)

What do you think you would earn from it?

If this is going to be a full-time thing whereby you can devote your time to truly perfect your art and have things like:

      1. Daily release (preferably, 2x a day)
      2. Mass release (in response to reader's support etc)
      3. Continue writing; as in, once one completes, write another. Some even have 2 - 3 novels being written at the same time.

Then, you have the potential to get a good income from this. It takes a LOT of hard work to get good income. Not just the ability to write well, but also the effort behind it. For example, not just the above 3, but also working hard to getting it ranked so that it gets more exposure.

Otherwise, it's just as RachelRuth said.

The actual income you can get from it is just from the MGS (Minimum Guarantee System). If you're prepared for all of that, and still want the contract, then the things you can tell your parents are:

      1) I don't mind giving away my copyright as I am just writing for fun. I don't envision this to ever be big if I was to publish it on my own.

      2) I am having fun, just writing, and having a contract gives me added validation of my worth.

      3) I am writing to get experience and in the future, use this platform to gain popularity / fame, so that when I actually do publish elsewhere, I already have a fanbase.

The only down side is that there are so many pirate sites stealing your work, and cutting into what little income you could have obtained.

Ofure I don't have a contract to speak first hand. It is based on what others say in chats.
