      Synopsis: I was just a normal girl before any of this happened to me. Before I was known as Donis Rubinoff, my name was different. I grew up on the island of Okinawa located in Japan. My family was poor so none of us finished school. Even though I was a girl, I wanted to go farther than grade school. So when they built one of the first all girl’s high schools, I took the entrance exam and got in. My parents discouraged it while my teachers did the opposite.

      But my school life changed when the Americans attacked our island, in 1945, the emperor mobilized school boys and girls to serve in the military. Boys trained for the front line roles while the girls from my school trained to become nurses, the Himeyuri Corps, in the short span of a year.

      We expected to work in a hospital, but all we got were dirty caves full of disease and death. When we were told to leave the caves, most of us died since the recon planes never picked any of us up. I happened to be one of those victims.

      And when I closed my eyes the moment I met death, I had opened them again as a noble girl.
