Recently I’ve been getting really into world hopping novels where our main character progresses through different environments in general. I feel that it is refreshing as it continuously refreshes the perspective of the book and as the book progresses the story is not monotone and in the same vein as the previous events. World hopping itself is also appealing because when an author has good world building, the story comes out really well and when coupled with different situations and power systems in new worlds, this genre is what really keeps me going. I will be asking for recommendations and giving a few novels that I read that others should read as well.
One disclaimer, I really hate systems in general. I feel that it essentially is just a shortcut, and when people try and make interactions with a sentient system and try to make it somewhat funny, it just feels cringe. Although world hopping in general requires the existence of a cheat, and systems that are sentient as in a personality and give out missions are a no go in my book.
A few that I’ve read and recommend others to read are:
- Fantasy Simualtor - about 468 chapters right now and still being translated. It has good plot and development, you just need to be patient and happily explore
- Mythical Journey - Around 1200 ish chapters, by Get Lost who does these pretty well
- Way of the Devil - Also by Get Lost, has a cheat that is quick powering up and a method to traverse worlds, but it comes out later in the story. It’s on hiatus at around 762 chapters.
- Nightmare’s Call - Also by Get Lost, but go figure translation stopped by Webnovel at around 586 chapters like all good novels. He explores other worlds through his dreams; pretty good tbh.
- Soul of Negary - Webnovel stopped translations like they usually do. Around 475 chapters.
I’ve already read most of the well known ones like WMW and other eastern fantasy ones, so please hit me with some recommendations to get me through my day.
I believe a major point is to view the world hopping itself as an actual progression and not just a sidetrack which can come off easier in some novels like Fantasy Simulator than others like Way of the Devil. I wish you fellow daoists luck in your reading journey!
