CKtalon Sorry I thought webnovel was owned By qidian:). thx for the info.

How will authors then earn?
Also will the stories be translated into Chinese,?

TravelingPoet Authors will earn a one time pay for the rights of the book and them royalties + cut of the profit from SS if the novel goes premium. I think the numbers will vary according to popularity of the novel when the contract is signed.

About translating to chinese, I might be wrong, but I think if it ever happens we are years away from that.

CKtalon Do you know when the contracts would be given? Or the minimum amount of chapters necessary per week?

TravelingPoet There will be a basic monthly pay if you are able to write consistently throughout the month.

Once the Editors believe that your work is good enough, your work will go Premium. Then, it will depend if readers are willing to pay for them or not. You will still be given a basic monthly pay if you remain consistent for a period of time if the amount earned from readers are lower than the basic pay.

It is very unlikely English novels will be translated into Chinese for now. Compare the few hundred authors on Webnovel to the millions of authors on Qidian...there's really no point why the Chinese will support a translated work.

TravelingPoet If your writing is looking like it may go premium you may want to do three things before signing a contract.

        1. MAKE SURE you get a lawyer to review anything before you sign it. Make sure everything in the contract is clear and something you agree to. There is already a very bitter contract dispute between Qidian International and another party over publishing agreements. So far there have been several actions taken by QI that seem very duplicitous. Including stealing a Chinese novel that was Licensed to another English publisher.
        2. If your work is really popular, consider getting an agent. They can help negotiate the pitfalls that can occur in publishing.
        3. Make sure you are not signing your copy right ownership away. It is something you and your heirs should own not something the publisher should own. You want to assign them the right to publish a story. Not give them ownership to the copyright. This is a big issue in China.

Understand, Qidian is in this business to make a profit they are not in it for the author. An author's work is just the product they sell.

TravelingPoet The level of writing and story telling needed to stand out from all the newbies trying their hands cannot be underestimated. If you are just starting out writing and want to make money from it, keep dreaming!
