TheBookSage Well, nobody asked them to publish written words in a language they are not proficient with.
I've read some novels - here and elsewhere - where it feels like the author/translator/10-man-proofreading-team flips a coin whenever words like "was", "were", "they", "their", "they're" and so on get used. Literally half the sentences have at least 2 mistakes (one mistake often breeds another one, but two wrongs doesn't make one right) in them.
And that's just one source of mistakes. Verbs are most likely in the wrong tense, too....
Seriously, they have to be flipping coins.
Are they also writing official letters, applications and other important stuff like this? How about at least running a quick spellcheck in Word™?
If people like this don't get called out for their incompetence, they believe it is okay to suck at whatever you do. You are allowed to suck in your learning phase, but if you stopped improving for a long time and still suck.... please don't write a novel in that language?
I myself wouldn't even dream about being proficient enough in english to write a novel. How come those 'authors' (and translators?) feels no shame? Such thick face. Wow.
