The first time I started reading was when I'm only 10... or was it 9? Of course, it was in my first language. Then I got bored, I switch to read novels in English with what little English I know because I only learn it from school.

Years later... which was 7 years ago I wrote my first fanfic. Don't ask what fanfic

And now I'm here began my first original. No, I'm not advertising... At least not yet...

I'm 18 years old and already work after I graduate a year ago. I'm managing the family business and it's a real pain in the censor.

I'm working from 8 am to 12, lunch break an hour, begin again from 1 pm to 5 pm, dinner break, start again from 6.30 pm to 9 pm.

And I hate it if not for the fact that we all need to eat, and I have to earn my share.

So when did I write with such a schedule? Obviously during break time, or working hour when I want to clean my head from numbers.

Not the best time to write, my brain already burdened with work and now I have to wreck it to think about plot, an original plot, but I enjoyed it.

Now I like to play some music while writing so I can get my brain working or I will just stare at my screen without moving for 30 minutes without any words typed. And yes, it has happened.

My favorite music is all composed by Yiruma. I also enjoy rock especially if I'm writing a fighting scene. I just need the feel. Different music for a different scene in my work.

I was publishing 3 chaps a week before, and my work keeps going up and down in top 100 since the first time I publish. Pretty good considering we have a few thousand originals in this site. I don't remember how much.

I usually write 500 words a day which took me hours to finish even using my resting time for what little readers I have. What? I'm slow, you said? Hey, I'm writing an actual original content. Mind you

And now I'm publishing everyday , which mean 7 chaps a week, in other words, I'm writing 1000 words everyday, which is very little compared to other original.

I noticed that, but I'm not a full-time writer that makes money from writing. I'm doing this for myself or I'm going to be crazy because didn't do my hobby. Even if my head keeps aching from thinking too much.

And now I'm writing to read that one comment, yes, only one, to comment on every single chapter of mine. Even a single word such as 'Thanks' means a lot to me. The feeling of being appreciated is rewarding! No, it's not only me. Ask any other original authors, I'm lucky to have that one reader who spares some seconds of his life to write those comments.

Thank you. I know that you know I'm talking about you. That is if you read this.

I have 330+ collection of my original. I have a few loyal readers who keep giving me power stone. I know all that account by heart. And for that. Thank you.

What? this began to feel like an "apologize" thread because I'm going to drop? NO! Hahaha, I'm very consistent. So, NO

I'm appreciating my readers here. Every single one of them counted. But sadly, after knowing my loyal readers by heart, I still don't know who the rest of ghost readers. I need what you called 'interaction'. I need to know what you think about my work. Not only me. But all the Authors are all the same. You don't like our work? Say it nicely, and give constructive criticism. We welcome it with open arms. That is if the Author is not a sore loser who can't take any criticism.

You like our work? Let us know about your presence.

If not for the fact that Qi has features to let us know how much readers have our original in their library... With the lack of Reviews, comments, or interaction. There will be a lot of dropped originals every day.

You think we didn't read your comment? We read all of it, we screenshot the comment, then show it off in Author server in discord. That just how much we love comments. We are not paid for doing this. Though some would love contract. What is our motivation? That is having supportive readers.

Unless there's an author who dropped their work even after numerous readers said they love the novel. Man... If it was me... I will treasure them. There's no one like that, right?

Ugh... what am I doing? I barely write 500 words today even after asking the mod in discord to mute me for 12 hr. Gotta be productive.

Somehow this thread became a rant. Maybe I should change the thread's title to "Author's Thought"

Btw... I also love my editor! And all my readers!!! Even if you are ghost readers!

This is my original...

9 months ago, after flunking six other novels, I finally had the heart of returning back to writing originals, and the first time I started, there's this one guy which kept on asking me questions regarding the chapters and saying that I should continue on since he enjoys my story... Ever since then, the community of my readers have gone up and I feel this sublime sensation of satisfaction that rises up inside my heart...

Even though sometimes the comments aren't that good, I still appreciate that they spared five minutes of their life to read my work and even placed a comment of their appreciation and gratefulness that I was pumping chapters everyday, and so, that one guy became my motivation to write more chaps, that despite the annoyance that other readers gives me like saying that my novel is trash or something along those lines, Since I promised that guy that I will complete that novel, I would definitely complete it, no matter how long would it take, so that I won't disappoint the readers that became loyal towards my novel...

In over all, sorry for the rant and here is what I could say towards the lurkers who just read and close the book.

Please leave a comment, even if it is EXP Sect or thanks for the chapters, It gives us the motivation to continue on our path and write more chapters, of course, even without that power stones, your comment alone motivates us...

So please, for our sake, leave a comment...

      Well... I'm 20.
I have a full-time job as a software developer (38,5h/w); earn money on the side by developing apps (12h/w); have an online scholarship until university starts (5h/w); am a part-time Editor (7h/w); and an Original Author (4h/chap).
Squeezing social-life and free time somewhere in-between to look like a normal person.

Do I get a sarcastic applause or a loli? With loli I mean the kind I can lick in desire. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

TheLonerLion I initially want to reply this thread by telling my story too, but in the end I don't know what to write... So let me tell you, that I feel the same XD

I feel happy when there are many comments, and I feel sad when I notice a significant amount of drop in the comments, or if some loyal commenters suddenly didn't show up. Perhaps they have dropped the novel, I will never know, but I will always appreciate each one of my reader!

Hmmm what should I insert here? Yes, this is another original author noting that we all read and love each and every comment. Thank you, readers, for spending your precious time for our stories <3
And good luck for us, original authors, whatever your motive for writing is

        You guys are geniuses.
I have 3 months of holidays (highschool's over), yet I cannot even think of a novel plot😂😂. Even if I somehow manage to create a plot, I honestly don't think I can bring myself to write more than 500 words a day.

KingBiBiK Well I still haven't entered the professional scene yet so I can't imagine what you feel actually, but this being the last year of my college I will need to go job hunting as it seems that my country has overabundance of engineers and they don't want anymore techies.
Government sector here I come.....!!(P.S. my family sucks at business, so no place to fall back to for me.)

bachingchung You stuck in this too?.... Well here I just needed 4years to complete the course.
But how long have you been stuck in this?

TheLonerLion very touching statement from fellow original author :)
but I must say, the inkstone is getting better. At the first time launched, we don't even know if there are readers who read our works and add them to the library. Now, if we record it, we can see how many readers read our works every day. And if we know that we have such reader then we just couldn't drop our works, right? even if they not saying/comment anything about our works

Applause to all original authors. I really like your post. I can't really give any help because I'm not really an author(not yet!) and I am still in school, so getting a job seems like centuries away, but I encourage you all to keep writing. Writing is not only for the audience (readers), but for writers. I read because it makes me happy or really, really angry. It depends on what I'm reading. 😅But I consider writing and reading to be an art. You guys are the super skilled OP sect masters that make really interesting MCs and somewhat brainless villains. Every book has an author. There are no differences between translated and original novels. Both come from the hard work of the creator. They are just ideas of the author transcribed onto paper or the screen in front of us. So, keep writing, keep torturing your readers with cliffies, and keep sharing your own ideas. Fighting!

Wow... your story was very inspiring. I want to share my POV as a reader. I like reading, but I can't write. Thus I use power stone here to support the author. But, i only have 1 PS and so many original authors here. I even can't read all of them too. I just pick according to genre that i like.
And I don't know how to support all of them.... Btw, did you get paid by Qi here? If you did, at least it make me relieved a bit. But if not... I don't dare to say though

              TheLonerLion
Heyyy Lion! What an inspiring piece, thumbs up! <33

Since people are sharing their life tidbits I guess I'll share mine haha. When I was in grade one, I was put into a private ESL (English as Second Language) program because I was a pretty sickly child and basically missed 3 weeks out of a month of school in junior and senior kindergarten. My parents only spoke Chinese at home even though we lived in Canada, so as you could imagine, I wasn't doing that well in language class.

Thanks to my teacher's hard work though, I quickly caught up to my classmates because I absolutely loved reading stories. And honestly, the ESL classes took place during my gym classes (and I am a very clumsy and unathletic person) so I was pretty happy to skip gym to read LOL.

When I was eleven, an older friend showed me Fanfiction.net and I fell in love. I made them make me an account and started writing really, reeeeally terrible fanfics....they're still on my account today and my eyes bleed a bit whenever I see them. I took a break from writing after a year and signed up for deviantart instead to draw, and only came back when I was fourteen. But I was going into high school soon, so I decided to up my writing skills and wrote maybe 300k words in the summer before high school started. My writing still wasn't that great, but there was a vaaaast improvement after typing out 300k words.

I kept pumping out fanfics after that through my high school career (was in a specialized music program for strings where we sometimes had over 5 hours of orchestra rehearsal practice a day, and I had to practice 2-5 hours of solo playing at home, plus I took all maths and science courses) though my speed slowed a bit. All my readers back then had been super, super encouraging even though sometimes I could only post one chapter a month! Honestly, if I didn't have those kind readers, I think I would have given up writing fiction long, long ago.

When I turned eighteen, I found NovelUpdates.com and fell in love with translated novels. My fanfic updating had slowed down to almost non-existence because of university applications and other reasons, so mindlessly reading cnovels was great haha. Through some mishaps I ended up hurtling myself into the translator world, and then my writing skills dropped like 10x because of Chinese grammar...

I found out about Webnovel when it came out and didn't sign up because of exams, but after my break started I was raring to write again after translating for a whole year! As of now, I have four translation projects, 1.5 original novels (co-writing a new one with a friend, wink wonk) and a few dozen fanfictions. I'm also in university as well, but since I'm on break I'll skip that to shorten my looong post here LOLOL. Anyway, I found a bunch of my old fanfiction readers during my translating and also after I began posting on webnovel, so it's been a long journey!

Adding on to what others have been saying, every single reader is precious to us! But it's also amazing to see readers comment and tell us their thoughts, because as a writer, after working on a chapter for x amount of hours the worst thing would be feeling like you threw it into the void after posting it. I know many readers don't really comment because of time restraints or because you think we don't care, but we do and you totally make our day!

And lol mandatory small plug for my current original novel. 😂😂 Hope you don't mind, Lion!

TheLonerLion Well, you managed to touch my heart. I'm also eighteen but only in my last year of what you would call 'high school' and even then, aside from going to the university to study 'english literature' in hopes of improving my writing, I have no other 'goal' that can help me get a job... Does this even make sense...

Still. Thing is, I also share your thoughts. I'm very grateful for those who read my novel and for those few that leave a comment or use their powerstones to vote for it... What I think I, and plenty of other authors lack here however is REVIEWS, constructive reviews. I personally don't take it to heart when someone says 'I like this and that' or 'I dislike this and that' and places either one or five stars in their review of the novel. It's not like I absolutely don't care, It's just that it doesnt help me so I'm always left with a bit of dissapointment even if they only say positive things...

So well... As readers, I can only ask of you to read with an open mind and write your thoughts with honesty.
And you, Authors, don't be discouraged by bad comments or reviews or not getting any views. You have to also have in mind that webnovel is not a perfect platform to publish, but just a very suitable one for aspiring authors.
