This was a pretty popular thread on Royal Road right now so I thought I'd ask it here.
Should stories generated with an AI be allowed on Webnovel and other web fiction sites? What about stories that were written with the assistance of AI?

I'm not sure about webnovel but I know of sites that automatically mark it as plagiarism and ban the author who presents it as their own.
I also know there's a rule (about webnovel books) that says you should write the book on your own without help from third parties. Pretty sure AI qualifies as third parties
Avalorian_ What sites mark AI content as plagiarism? I feel like that's pretty extreme. I could see why they would argue it's plagiarism since AI's are built from stripped content off the internet, but I think it could be argued that that's exactly what us humans do when we research stuff for our writing.
And in term of who holds copyright rights with AI generated content, I'm pretty sure the user holds the right, at least that's what I read in chatGPT's terms of service. It could be different for other language modules.
I did spend a little bit of time looking around Webnovel's terms of service, and I didn't see anything about not being allowed to write with the help of a third party. It seems like a rather unrealistic rule since I feel like most authors get assistance from third party such as friends and family. And if you meant 3rd party software, I also feel like a good amount of authors don't write their story inside Inkstone and they use some kind of spell checking software like Grammarly.
And AI assistance is a tool. It's just a more advanced version of Grammarly or ProWritingAid, it is a tool born in a new era.
Is the ai for editing purposes or for fully writing a novel? I've never tried to use it.
I believe it's fine, until they are just copy pasting some story they just asked the Ai to produce, then no.
AI plagiarizes other people's stories like 99% of the time, just remember that if you get caught and accused of plagiarism on WN, you will be blacklisted here.
In fact, accepted or not, no one will know, just give the right prompt to chatgpt, make it personalized and you can make your dream a reality (story)
AI-generated stories are short. However, you could use AI to help you write a story that's what I do. I'm not that good of a writer so I use chatgpt to help me word my work properly and It could give you constructive criticism as well. feel free to check my story out. Just to let you know it's still my story AI only helps me word it properly.

QTV yeah, it's the best way to use it, as an assistant, to help you, not make the story itself.
Why not? I don't see it as a bad thing, I'm cool with AI written stories. As long as they're edited afterward by a human being. I know AI written stories may lack that personal touch from a real writer, but on the other hand, AI can be a really helpful tool.
Like QTV said, it's good for wording the stories properly and finding new words.
I'm currently using InfinAIty to improve my content. Mind you, just for improvement. Like rewriting, to make it a bit more interesting and creative. I like my stories to be written from zero by myself.
