found out why it is so...
Seems that if the chapter requires more than one pass, there will be no shown option to unlock with ad or free pass in you currently have none...
if you get one, the unlock option will show, but still no way to unlock with ad...

The rewards were able to be claimed for 24h after the event ended. To get them you needed to navigate to the event page (where you chose the team) and the reward would be given. Unfortunately, the event icon was removed from the main screen as it ended, so you needed to know what to do beforehand and somehow navigate to the event page... Unlucky...
