      • Hello. I just wanted some suggestions on a few things.

Firstly, I am taking on the challenge of writing outside of my comfort zone. I normally write short novels, mainly about romance. This time I want to write a longer more detailed novel, where you get to know the characters and understand them fully. With short novels, information get's left out. I've taken on this challenge because I wanted to prove it to myself that I could persevere and complete it.

Personally, I don't want to write a cliché novel about a girl falling for the popular boy in highschool, but ends up dating her boy bestfriend. I have nothing against these types of books, I just don't wish to write one.

To give you some backstory: My novels takes the perspective of a boy around the age of 24. Throughout the book he struggles with his past traumas, toxic relationships and sexuality/identity. The book focusses on his personal journey of finding himself. The problem I am having is staying on track with this theme. Because, I am used to writing romance stories, I often find myself veering of into the romance side of things far more than I would like. Another issues is, I feel I am resolving his issues to soon, to the point where it is unrealistic. Once again, I'm used to short stories where the problem gets resolved quite quickly.

If you have any suggestions on novels/short stories/comics/anything alike that focus on character growth that could help me learn how to structure my characters development throughout the novel then please do let me know. I am all ears and always interested in learning new things about writing.
