I personally used GIMP for creating my novel cover. It's very similar to photoshop. I imagine you could also add effects to the picture, but I'm not sure.
Yesterday marked my fourth day of writing 2 chapters for my novel each day, and today will be my fifth. I'm actually really proud of myself lol.
