Don't introduce too many characters or events in your synopsis, focus on key elements that are easy to grasp by reading your novel's 1-5 chapters and yet are interesting and may catch someone's attention right away. If you're writing a story with a 'cheat' or 'op system' that are available from the start and interesting them I would focus on introducing them in a funny/intriguing way. If you're writing a love story where the girl plays the part of a prince maybe your synopsis can introduce that character like a guy only to mention at the end something like 'If only she was a boy' etc.

As for posting on watapad ... give up. New stories don't have any exposure over there and drown in millions of others, you will get like one reader per month.

As for RoyalRoad that's a good idea, people over there are active, like to comment, the site gives you many tools that author's like (exact count of views per each chapter etc.) the exposure is fair and it's easy to gather some additional readers, but they tend to be a bit favorizing towards the litRPG genre and similar.

Kind of hard to achieve while working at the same time, unless you put a lot of fillers or have a heavenly skill of writing and unless you become popular the money is bad. I mean the minimum avarage pay in the UK for a month of work is around ~1200 and not US$ but more valuale pounds.

NineNeatherBird That's what I want to avoid, it's chaotic and when it's possible to illustrate a 10 people conversation in this way, making a constant use of it would require the reader to lose the 'smoothness' of reading and force him to pay attention to every name and indication of who's talking. It's way to easy to get lost and have to go back to re-read the whole part again.

Leylin_Farlier Grouping them is a good idea, otherwise, it turns into a mess where even if you point at each character it still gets hard for the reader to imagine the scene and keep up with the constant changes of who is talking and to whom. Well switching the rest into a 'stand-by-nod-only' mode may work as well, but requires a bit of practice to avoid situations where the rest becomes a background, or readers will forget that this person was even there in the first place.

Tell me how to write a scene where 10+ characters are talking at the same time, without pointing my finger at each of them with 'said xx' 'asked yy' 'moved zz'. Is that even possible?

Using every opportunity to post a link to your novel, but never post it twice in the same place to avoid irking people.

You may read other people novels, offer them a word of advice / simple comment on their work and mention that you're writing something as well.

Discord is a good way of promoting yourself, but everything has to be in a proper balance.

Hit as many places as you can, NUF forum, RoyalRoadLegends, Booksie, Honeyfeed, you don't have to keep posting there all the time, just release few chapters and mention that more can be read here.

What else hmm... well, there are no fast ways unless you're lucky, but simply writing a good story and continuing to release new chapters regularly will help you to build a fanbase step by step.

A good synopsis and tagging are important! A nice cover to attract attention. You will lose a lot of potential readers if you lack any of those three parts or if they're of poor quality.

kcgrabin You're third and atm you've got 150+ p. stones, I'm 36th with a meager amount of 56 p.stones, but when it comes to 'Magical Realism' category then I'm 3rd.

You can at least see the starting line and wonder if it's worth giving it a try while for me and many others... is there even a point in trying? The guys in the front are so far ahead and were already given a chance to gather more readers by being highlighted in the originals worth reading section on the main site, not to mention giving them editors and so on.

I know that 'then you should just write better' is a proper answer to my message, but I'm writing a story that's heavily focused on the psychological aspect of the characters and there aren't any eye-catching baits in it like 'cultivation to defy the heavens!', 'becoming immortal!'; 'more power, more power muahahaha!'; 'revenge for (whatever), I will kill you all!'; 'op system from the start'; etc. - the cliche seekers or people seeking familiar grounds are just bouncing off during the first chapter or two from mine.

There could be at least more categories or other ways to reward the original stories's authors placing further down the list (not monetary ones). The three winners will basically compete only with each other without sparing a glance at the rest, far, far away in the dust.

Don't get me wrong, I wholeheartedly support initiatives like this one, it just could be organized a bit better.
