Lord_HaarT Greed? Everyone has that. That is their living. If my sole income of mine is from writing, I want more money if possible from each words I make. Luckily, I am not.
No daily free chapters in premium novels
MasterRabbink those author earn more than a white collar can get gramps, they earn three times more than what a lecturer or programmer get in their montly salary

Lord_HaarT This is the same problem in football. Only the top authors earn that.
For example Serie B or Serie C in Italian football didn't earn that much. However, our imagination that everyone was Christiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. Don't you see Michael Essien played for Persib? His salary won't be enough to pay CR or LM for a week.
Only few were in the Top. That what Webnovel advertise, the rest might be only around White Collar revenue. Pareto rules. 20% authors will have 80% revenues.
Lord_HaarT a programmer could earn a lot if he's really good or has some connections to have a lot of clients.
N0xiety EA really rubs off their game with their microtransactions and sh*t.
MasterRabbink true. The same goes with rappers and other artists on their industry. They have no idea that tens of thousands audition tapes are being sent to a corresponding studio and rejected. They all think that succesful artists don't deserved what they got coz' it seems so easy. If you're the top of your game, then you'll make big bucks. It's common sense.
Lord_HaarT if they do then they shouldn’t get more greedy, but u can’t just say it and expect us to believe that right? How do you know they get that much?
By the way have you guys also noticed they put up adwalls for all previously unlocked chapters? I’m 100% sure a lot of those chapters I’ve once either unlocked via watching the ads or paid 4SS. Now it’s just gone with the wind and if I wanna reread chapters then too bad I guess.
terminatermike1 read this thread :)

There used to always be this competition between QI, WW and GT but now it seems like QI got tired of it and decided to be greedy. WW has brought out subscriptions but it is only for bonus chapters so they are keeping their relationship with the free viewers pretty good. I for an example used to view things freely but I always find myself now subscribing to a couple novels. I have dropped so many novels on here because of Spirit stones, this model is so bad, I also do not condone cutting off your free viewers out of greed without any transparency too.

NetherPrime The question for WW. Did the author of the novels in Chinese/Korea got a share of their in-house Patreon system? Once a novel completed how the author could get the future 'license' of the novel? Took it for WW and sell it in Amazon?
WW is a translation site, I don't know if one day, one of other language translation site translate WW original novels (they had 2). How would WW stand? In the fans-translator side/free reader or in their author's side.

MasterRabbink I don't think the author has much to say as a QI contractor, same for translators. QI gave WW the rights to translate and publish some of those novels.
I don't think the translators here will see money when their work is being published on amazon as an ebook. In Webnovel's view, we should finance the translation first and net a profit and then they can publish a revised version for even more profit. Shame on Webnovel and QI

Yakumo Well... Authors had lots to say. Perhaps an author doesn't but a group of authors does. We have this fiasco now. Chinese authors wanted the same system used in China used on their novels. (No free chapters).
I believe Webnovel paid the translator at least a flat rate. I don't know about 'future' royalty. Only people with contract could answer.
MasterRabbink
i dont know why you say like you know anything but in real you just saying about rumors. You are not involved in the deal and you talk like shit. Just shut the fuck up. You dont have an authority and you dont involved in anything.
MasterRabbink I meant the author's say in handling the rights of his book. If QI really allowed WW to translate and publish it commercially, I don't think the author can stop it.
Webnovel's shady practices over the last year in trying to purge all fan translators & sites is pretty obvious. And their shameless ways to turn this site into a paywalled reading platform doesn't make them look better. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to falsely accuse WW of publishing without license, when QI actually offered it to WW before Webnovel even existed. But Webnovel has QI and in the end Tencent as backer, whereas WW has what?
Face_Smacking_Dao rumors?
It's already confirmed dude, author want webnovel applied the system like qidian used.
Which side webnovel will take? The author of course
SweetsTomato
i know to but do you have authority to say that? Do you do the deal? Do say like "author and webnovel make some deal. Here's the detail (link)" not enough? Do it need "i believe bla bla bla"? Get the fact right and dont give some bullshit

Face_Smacking_Dao I don't know what you want. I don't think Webnovel would give some official statement. Have you read that short-lived page?
There is a short lived thread in this forum that had been deleted (only last for hour), the closest you could get to the answer.
I don't have an authority, but I read that thread, and tell the uninformed about the reason. You can see some people also saw the thread.

Face_Smacking_Dao Why does anybody need the 'authority' to talk about something? Then we'd never get any news, because no one got the authority to write about others. And he doesn't talk in the name of Webnovel, so where's the problem?
Yes, it's better to base their statements on facts, but this is not some academical paper, but a free discussion where ppl write what's on their mind and everyone is free to do so as long as it doesn't break forum rules.
Yakumo I don't agree 100% with WN. However, I believe some fans-translations who joined WN wants to make their work official. There are people who joined means some translators believe in WN.
It is hurt of the paywalled platform. However, since the first WW and WN war. I personally could foresee this.
Nintendo even had closed the Emuparadise and aim for several other ROM sites. Based on law they can do that. People had make the law and elected their 'government'.
I think the biggest problem started with fans-translation had Patreon. They get money and the author and publisher didn't get it. It showed the market to the publisher. Publisher found there is money... and the story goes on. The biggest mistake at the beginning was some translator 'monetize' their work. From donation it had turned into business.
There is no longer fans-translation (there is some but rare now, unpopular novel get dropped soon. Some missing translator intentionally blocked other translator to continue their translation, etc.). There is full time translator worked in the industry. Even WW is no longer fans-translation site, they are a business and pioneer who had introduced Eastern Fantasy to the world.
For example, if WW just wants to publish, they could still host CD in their site and receive 35% from Amazon. They opted the 70% and kindle unlimited deal. Perhaps when the novel has sold for some times and the sales goes down, WW would return to its site and receive the 35% deal.
It is the correct decision as a publisher and a business. Nothing wrong with WW decision, they give the money to Qidian and original authors. Everyone is shady when money comes. In the past the site owner is against 'premium chapter' and they implemented it. Check their forum, people complaint in minority. However, they still allow free readers to read, so no backslash. The same as when WN still gave free daily chapters.
This move of Webnovel is bad. The market is still young. They should have vision for a few years later. They had to challenge the giant Amazon before the giant saw the opportunity.
I don't know about falsely accuse. If I read the past war, it is some disagreements based on the contract clause and the 'verbal' agreement. That should be law domain not us. Both are had their own arguments.
