Hello fellow readers and authors.
To Make this website a place where we can feel at home, we can't just depend on translations. Otherwise the day this website goes down won't be far away. The only solution possible is to make original novels stronger! They have to pull this cart called webnovel!
The problem right now is that many novels get dropped, authors lose motivation and bad quality + quantity is often the result.
I know that many people have many different ideas to make this better but I believe webnovel shouldn't try to create the wheel anew.
What authors want is the feeling that their work gets appreciated. For that reason, I ask webnovel to allow authors, who fulfill certain conditions, to earn some money through ads.
Conditions could be:
Book needs 30 chapters published
A certain number of power stones
A certain number of views
A rating of 3 stars or higher
The point is not that authors earn enough to live from it or something like that... I doubt they can gain through ads enough money right now...but just as an appreciation earning 10 dollars a month gives the author the feeling that he/she has a responsibility towards his/her readers and work!
Take a look at youtube! A platform can only get big and strong if you allow the community to administrate themselves. Just imagine youtube would have to create for every single creator a different contract.... the platform wouldn't be even half as big as it is right now.
Webnovel has to step back and allow the community to develop themselves. I know that it needs a lot of courage to go that step but only that way can this thing get really big.
Pls guys Like this to allow the whole thing to get some attention!
Often when we talk about paying authors people say, if they can't wait for their contract and work for free they don't have enough determination but this is not really about earning money but about the feeling you have when you write. Giving your work some worth!
Pls, guys, I know that there are many ways to make webnovel a better place for us but pls let us stay together behind this idea. Only if the community is able to stand strongly behind a single idea will we be able to get at least some attention from webnovel/qidian
So again pls "like" this and whoever has the connections pls try to influence qidian/webnovel to overwork/ rethink about this whole system right now. I personally don't mind any other system as well but I think that this one they have right now will doom this whole website one day and slow any growth possible!

Some authors only wanted a Patreon button on the novel main page.
Some waited for contract.
Some hoped for front page preview.
However, to motivate an author is simple. Readers only need to comment.
"Hi! Thank you for the chapter." in the latest chapter.
That shows somebody read their novel. That's it. No money needed for new author. No Power Stones. No SS. Nothing. Just a simple comment would do some author the best. Give a "true" review, and gold.
Ofcourse thats true too...But you really think youtube would be as big as it is right now if they didn't give the users the ability to grow small amounts of monthly incomes? Money is just something real... The feeling of getting something "real" for something "unreal" you created is different from just a comment.

SuperSilentSin Nearly no halfway decent novel has below 4 stars. 4 stars should be the bottom line. Also, most original authors fake their own rating with fake accounts. Thus only lvl 3 and above accounts should be allowed to vote. They could also implement a time restriction allowing only accounts older than 2 weeks to vote. the should only allow one account per IP adress or at max 2 if someone shared their W-Lan. They should block proxy IPs if possible.
The reason a lot of novels aren't that appreciated is simply because they lack quality. The good novels get a lot of good feedback. Most people simply don't read Sayiajin Naruto Pirate King with a System.
The only way to guarantee that original authors grow, get good feedback and earn some money is to ensure the quality of the novels. If great original novels are drowned with hundreds of fanfictions and simply bad novels with 5 star fake ratings of course, most readers won't bother to plow through all of them. after reading the fifth fake-rating novel written by someone who can't even write a coherent sentence most won't keep bothering and simply drop original novels in general, thus never get to read the good ones under them.
Malicious fake voting and quantity over quality is the main problem for the original novels.

PlottwistAntiHero noticed as well that fanfictions should be taken out of the rankings for originals. Webnovel themselves degrade originals if they put them on the same step as fanfics. How can they expect respect for originals when they themselves don't respect them?!?
PlottwistAntiHero Stars rating is not a decent measure to make a novel is good or not. most reviewer did not take 5 rating element to make the valuation. if they not like the story, although the grammar is good, released every day, character is well described...they still give 1 star.

SuperSilentSin To make money with Webnovel. An author HAS to license their character/novel with webnovel/Qidian/Tencent. That is in the contract. Tencent make Qidian and therefore webnovel for the sole reason to gain Intellectual Property. (Read the economic sites).
They want to become the Disney of China. They had Zhang Xuan now. The Master Teacher would be a good attraction if they made a 'movie', a game, an animation, a manga, or perhaps a theme part attraction. They would marketed your novel, but you have to give them your 'characters'.
Perhaps seeing Master Teacher Zhang Xuan as a character in Arena of Valor or League of Legends? Perhaps Yale Roanmad next?
A common author couldn't do that. They had to partner with Tencent if they want to do that. WW or RR couldn't do that. Even Wattpad couldn't do that. This is the power of Tencent.
yeah, I understand what you mean but why one or the other? they could simply keep contracted works and those get better deals. After all, they can get 12 SS and ads are only worth 4? So for authors, there is still a point in getting contracted. There is no reason to make it all or nothing...
And the thing with the characters in video games... doesn't the author profit from that as well? at least it sounded last time like that I read them talking about it?
still you need some sort of measure and if you sell your book for example, on amazon, you also have these ratings. its better than nothing, even if not always fair.
I think the ss system they have is very messy and now premium novels have stopped updating on a daily basis. This will definitely affect the community here. If they have a subscription-based system I will gladly pay them monthly/yearly. Something like 4$ or 5$ per month for no ads is reasonable. They can follow the same method as Crunchyroll.
SuperSilentSin I believe WN would hire all author. If you are confident with your quality, you can contact WN (they made a Google Docs.) WN also come to authors in Top 10 at least. I believe WN had opened a new 'wave' of contracted originals.
For the last, that is the dream, but even in Qidian... Only few had good merchandising opportunity. Author would get some share perhaps... it is 50:50 WN and the authors, based on Qidian system that some staffs mentioned before. For example Amazon is 70:30 (30 for you. If you give them exclusivity 30:70.)

I think Amazon takes 30% you get 70%. Isn't that their standard? I informed myself a little about them and what it costs to place products their and everyone says that Amazon gets 30%... and you the owner 70%. just think about it! otherwise, you could sell the stuff through your own shop for half the price and still earn more.

SuperSilentSin No. 70% is if you are exclusive with them. Your own shop? Making people dare to put their credit card number is hard... There is a google docs that you could fill if you want to contact Webnovel.
[unknown] today there are man companies with solutions for the payment you can use. For real maybe books need 70 percent but in Germany at least it's only 30% for normal products. I looked books up and they seem to have different regularities for them

SuperSilentSin ?? Payment solution is not that high. However, for example Android and iOS Apple and Google take 30% of any in app purchase.
For Amazon they had 2 method. Exclusive and Not. If you sign for exclusive you will get 70% of revenue (you can also join Kindle Unlimited), Amazon took 30%. If you didn't (in example, you want to keep publishing in other avenue, like in Apple iBook or Google Play Book, or perhaps to host it for free in your sites.) you will get only 35% of the sales while Amazon kept 65%.
