Is it me or 95 percent of Original Novels are system based except romance.
Like I rarely even want to bother with the Original Section anymore because I'm tired of all these systems.
Is it somehow much harder to write a non system novel?

      1) system is a fad and get readers who are following
      2) system enables the author to base a story around it with little thought of progression arc for the MC and all the other characters can be in service of the plot

      There are a couple of good system novels but they are the exception to the rule.

      If you wanted better writing you would go to RR where the reader is more discerning.

          Rorsharch Not really, but the system based novels are what most of the people here in webnovel want to read. Still my own novel Adopted Soldier isn't system based if you want to read. :)

            Nope. System novel is actually harder since the author need to 'design' the system. What feature would be unlocked next, etc.

            It is easier to make cultivation novel, just give a cool name cultivation technique, where the MC is actually eating pill like popcorn or meditating in a cave for (insert super long time). Add some logic to make the cultivation sound good.

            For example Moon Walking Divine Heaven Spiritual Technique, required the user to moonwalk to cultivate, and so on. Of course, I read a novel (Way of Choice?) which had very confusing cultivation, that even made me think that was real. Nevertheless, I forget (skip) those long and confusing sentences tho. That doesn't work in real life (and I better use the time to read mathematic book, that mathematic book is work in real life.), and anything write about cultivation is actually word counts fillers (the same with System Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!). That is word count fillers.

            Also, System novel needs to 'keep' track the Lv, mission, point, and blablabla. So it is harder. LitRPG is even harder since status windows is the key.

            Nevertheless, the main factor is people love System. Actually the trending topic is "sex' or erotica.

            This showed that you rarely check Original.

            Another reason why System novel is popular perhaps because it is easier to know about the novel even just by reading the title.

            Between "Arrogant Young Master System" or "Endless Universes". Which one would you click to read?

            The only reason, this Rabbink can't write my novel title with system was that it was even confusing for me, the Author. Is it a system?

            PS: Most critics to System novel is the authors often forget to use system after Volume 1. It became non-system.

                Skully_ Do you like RR? I haven't put my novel up there and have been thinking about doing so. Not sure if this community is really into my sort of novel... I mean, I have readers, but the populace seems to really like the sorts of novels that I don't.

                    I think the system trend is slowly dying. As for why there are so many...
                    1. They used to be popular.
                    2. New authors have often read system novels so start doing the same thing.

                      BabyTanuki Erm... You are better to put on Wattpad or Mobo. Perhaps Tapas. RR is heavy on male side but your novel has action.

                      Just a warning before you put your novel in RR. The critics is sharp and cruel.

                      So you should iron every tiny bit of grammar or take the review on the positive notes only.

                      Only good writers like the Skull could survive in that place.

                          MasterRabbink Yeah, I would edit it more before going anywhere else. Wattpad is like this site? I've seen it mentioned before. I don't mind criticism. I started this to become a better writer, so although comments can hurt, I do try and think about where they are coming from.

                          I agree that my novel is a bit tricky to classify because I specifically try to make it for men and women. I don't like this gender specific stuff. It probably leans a little more for women, but I like action and adventure too... Don't know if I do myself a service or not making my novel that way, but that's the way I write.

                                BabyTanuki If your novel is romance orientated and popular with a female reader there are very few on RR like that.

                                If its fantasy, sci-fi with weak to strong MC with strong female lead. There are plenty of novels like that on RR and more than one in the top rating novels.
