SS vs USD

The average price of books in my country (Poland) is 13.5usd for a book with 500 pages.
In other words, 1000 pages = 27usd.

Most of the webnovel books have an average price of 9spirit stones per chapter.

Price ss on webnovel (best offer for 50 usd):
3250 ss = 50 usd
1ss = 0.0153 usd
9ss = 0.138 usd

So, to read 1000 pages on webnovel, you need to invest: 100x 0.138 usd = 13.8 usd.

In short, people translating books earn 50% of the book's value without incurring production costs or risk. On every reader.

After deducting the author's costs, we can assume that the translator earns 70% of the author's income.

I think it is a bad joke. The price of the translation should not exceed 10-20% of the author's revenue, if not 5% ...

    Vistarion You are forgetting about the publisher, QI. They took a huge risk by investing
    millions of dollars and are taking the lion's share. Afaik tlers earn a lot less than the market value for proper translations. Most of them are below average anyway, so I think their pay is justified.

      i dont think 10 pages of a book is 1 chapter... so its more then 13.8 usd...it should be either 100 X 1.38 or 1000 X 0.138... that means over 100usd for 1000 chapters with more then 50% novels have average translation...

        Currently in my business I employ a webmaster who creates my website that has a sales engine.
        Transaction operators are a cost, however, this is a minimal cost and independent companies do.
        However, webnovel does not issue invoices for the purchase of ss, so I doubt that it would be fully accounted for.
        I do not see any risk or cost here.

        Data storage: The server 10TB server is not a big expense. And it is easy to maintain an enormous amount of text data (the database probably does not exceed 100TB).

        In short, webnovels is too expensive to track a large number of books, it is a matter of time before a copycat appears and we all start using it ...

          Ops

          Ops, thanks for taking part in the conversation.
          You're right about the pages of the text. By reducing the font in Microsoft Word / Pages we get definitely less than 10 pages. Often, these are not even two pages with a small text.

          If the following is true, I apologize to the translators. And I'm transferring the blame 100% to quidan.

          Quote from the link:

          The translators are mostly from USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc .. They are "fan" translators. Readers who are fans of the West. Translation is not their full-time job. More like a part-time job, something on the side for 6-10 hours a week.

          They are paid $ 40 per chapter (2,500 English words). It takes about 2 hours to translate a chapter about $ 20 per hour pay rate. Translators also get money (tip / reward / donation) from readers through Patreon / Paypal so they could buy more than $ 20 per hour.

          If it's professional translators, the cost would be prohibitive. They would cost something like $ 250 to translate 2,500 words. I read that professional translators charge about $ 0.10 per word so 2500 English words chapter would cost $ 250. Using fan translations, they are able to make a go at it.

          i bought SS finished them... and now i only follow 1 novel , when i get to close to expiration day on the ss try to read more chapters from another novel that i like .
          But i'm pretty sure that when novels will get finished and put on amazon for 1/10 of the cost if u read it here with SS , if its worth ill buy it if not i'm sure that i can find it somewhere...
          And the authors that think that using china system for reading with USD its normal it sucks... they should know 1 usd is 7 yuan ... even if not all of us buy SS those that buy are probably making the authors the same money they make in china even if they have lower sales... but i cant say anything coz there are alot of ppl that 100usd a month is nothing my salary with 500 usd ...wtf should i use 1/5 of my salary to read something.
