        If the following is true, I apologize to the translators. And I'm transferring the blame 100% to quidan.

        Quote from the link:

        The translators are mostly from USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan etc .. They are "fan" translators. Readers who are fans of the West. Translation is not their full-time job. More like a part-time job, something on the side for 6-10 hours a week.

        They are paid $ 40 per chapter (2,500 English words). It takes about 2 hours to translate a chapter about $ 20 per hour pay rate. Translators also get money (tip / reward / donation) from readers through Patreon / Paypal so they could buy more than $ 20 per hour.

        If it's professional translators, the cost would be prohibitive. They would cost something like $ 250 to translate 2,500 words. I read that professional translators charge about $ 0.10 per word so 2500 English words chapter would cost $ 250. Using fan translations, they are able to make a go at it.

      • Ops

        Ops, thanks for taking part in the conversation.
        You're right about the pages of the text. By reducing the font in Microsoft Word / Pages we get definitely less than 10 pages. Often, these are not even two pages with a small text.

        Currently in my business I employ a webmaster who creates my website that has a sales engine.
        Transaction operators are a cost, however, this is a minimal cost and independent companies do.
        However, webnovel does not issue invoices for the purchase of ss, so I doubt that it would be fully accounted for.
        I do not see any risk or cost here.

        Data storage: The server 10TB server is not a big expense. And it is easy to maintain an enormous amount of text data (the database probably does not exceed 100TB).

        In short, webnovels is too expensive to track a large number of books, it is a matter of time before a copycat appears and we all start using it ...

        • SS vs USD

          The average price of books in my country (Poland) is 13.5usd for a book with 500 pages.
          In other words, 1000 pages = 27usd.

          Most of the webnovel books have an average price of 9spirit stones per chapter.

          Price ss on webnovel (best offer for 50 usd):
          3250 ss = 50 usd
          1ss = 0.0153 usd
          9ss = 0.138 usd

          So, to read 1000 pages on webnovel, you need to invest: 100x 0.138 usd = 13.8 usd.

          In short, people translating books earn 50% of the book's value without incurring production costs or risk. On every reader.

          After deducting the author's costs, we can assume that the translator earns 70% of the author's income.

          I think it is a bad joke. The price of the translation should not exceed 10-20% of the author's revenue, if not 5% ...

          • The points are crazy. I spend same money to suport, but naw im feeling forced to pay. The chapters here slowly became more expensive then buying a orginal book in a book store... Since there are points evrywhere release speed dropped on all series. Im going beck to old channels like WuxiaWorld, gravity...
