So, ever since Webnovel introduced the Original Creation option, where we readers could create or own novels and publish it to Webnovel. Ever since then, number novels have been uploaded.

What I'm righting this thread for, is to know how hard it is/was for you as an individual to create your novel. If we used a scale, let's say 1 is 'extremely hard' and 10 is 'refreshingly easy and fun'. Yeah, I'm not good at doing this, you cane make your own scales from 1-10.

I would put my self around 5.

I've never considered the possibility of becoming an author, but recently, I've been trying to become one. But I'm a god damn awesome procrastinator and it's taken me till now to actually become 'serious' about it.

And so far, I think I'm doing good...I've been working on chapter 1 for about a week now.........................

Anyways, writing isn't as easy as it seems and I'm just doing it for 'fun'.

Now, tell me about the challenges you've faced as you wrote your novel.

Me, before I even got past chapter 1, I had many problems. I've written many ideas down, done the world building, character design and all that, but each time I delete it, cuz I don't quite like it.

Anyways, I could go on, but I won't(Unless you want me, I can write more, I'm bored as all hell and looking for stuff t do!)

Alright, your turn...that is if anyone reads this...

My problem with writing is my grammar because English is not my first language. Also, I know the beginning, ending but I have issues in the middle.

Misguided_Rooster I can only tell you my experience. When writing a novel it can be rather hard to decide what path a story should go in, for example, a redemption arc vs. a (excuse my language) a batshit crazy lets murder everyone arc. How does this affect your character development? What will people think of it?

Overall though, I would suggest not to be too critical of your work, otherwise, you'll find sitting down and writing much harder. The chances are that while you don't enjoy a certian part of your novel, others may love it. I know in my first novel (unfinished btw), many people preferred the character Kewang Yun (Secondary POV character) over Kewang Tian (Primary POV Protagonist).

I'd say I started at a difficulty of 5 at the start 2 months ago and now I probably sit as a difficulty of 8 due to my improvements. I've found it to be a fairly easy experience for me overall. Much easier than writing long case studies, research papers, IT plans, etc.

Other than difficulty, I'd say I started at around a 5/10 in quality in my first novel. Since then, I feel like I've rapidly improved to a 7.5/10 in quality in my 2nd novel. However, I think that it'll be much harder to reach the 'next level' of quality from where I currently sit. In other words, I've reached a bit of a bottleneck? The earlier improvements came easy since I was new. The later improvements are harder since the bar only goes higher. Still, I see myself making continuous small improvements as I go. I'll be happy if I eventually reach what I consider a 9/10 in quality. That would consist of good story, foreshadowing, planning, characters, grammar, feelings, descriptions, world building, etc. The 10/10 level feels like it'll forever be outside my grasp. In fact, I don't think I'd ever give any novel a perfect quality score, though I do leave 5 star reviews to be fair. There's no such thing as reaching true perfection.

Misguided_Rooster I think 90% of people hoping to be authors never start, because they felt that they want their story to be up to a certain standard (that they hold themselves) before starting.

For me starting was a blur. No idea what to do. No idea what sells. Writing myself into corners in the story. So probably 3 and now maybe 7. Still not sure how to break into the top 50

If you're still finding it hard to figure out what to do, I'll suggest you watch the course that Brandon Sanderson taught. They're fairly lengthy, 1ish hours each, but they're informative (like the section on character stats: proactivity, competency, and likeability), and maybe one of those videos may cover an area that you find lacking. If you want to quickly go through the materials, feel free to play it at 1.5x or 2x speed. His speech is still understandable at that rate for me. G'luck guys.
