Hello! Just discovered this thread. I read fan fiction AND original writing. I also think that while fan fiction may be MUCH easier to write, well-written fan fiction is still very enjoyable! But yeah, I agree, they should either have a separate section or just not allow fan fiction. Why? Because I didn’t come here for fanfics. I came to webnovel because I wanted a xianxia/eastern fantasy story. If I wanted fantasy/litRPG, I would have gone to royal road legends. If I wanted fan fiction, I would have gone to fan fiction . net or archiveofourown. Also, if I’m in the original section, I’M NOT LOOKING FOR FAN FICTION. IT’S IN THE NAME. ORIGINAL. Yep.

Daoisthentai As long as it's marked fanfic, there's really nothing we can do. I understand where you're coming from, and I don't think WN should move all of the fanfictions to a different site, but maybe have two folders in the discover. One for original novels, one for fanfiction and the like. Personally, I don't read or write fanfiction because I think the original work is better, but I still don't think shoving fanfic writers away like they're a different species is going to solve a whole lot, either.

Don't do it. U might get attacked by an army of zombied fans of Naruto, dragonballs and fairy tails. That's too dangerous and u may also get banned. There are threads regarding spams. And in serious on the last part.

JunkieOverThe_Moon I fought with some of them. Most of these people are just brainless and it's waste of time. I think my dog is more intelligent than these people. I met some people with real opinions and I stopped doing these reviews after. "Do what you want...This is the WN you want...I am too tired to stop you." This world doesn't need heroes, this world needs monsters to do the right thing because heroes are too hypocritical to do anything right.

While I would agree with what you said. Originals do deserve their own categories but to say Fanfics are just run of the mill unoriginal work would really undermine what people write about.

I’m not supporting those who literally copy paste an original anime scene word to word with the exception of throwing their OC in the mix of it all. To further make it annoying some of them are reincarnated and they act all happy and chummy to fit in that specific worlds. That honestly makes me sick. If your OC is just gonna follow what the main character of the original anime would be what's the point. So yeah I support what you say.

But there are few very good Fanfics that are mostly AU. Sure they start of with same world but you could see a massive difference in characters their personalities and how the writer portrays it. Calling them unoriginal is a bit too much.

Just cause you have the same world does not mean you cannot make something original out of it. There are a million different ways things could in the same world affecting everything.

Just depends on what the writer is looking for. For me those who make everything look fine and Dandy about anime worlds and rinse and repeat the same plot over and over is where I draw the line

Yea, I hope they do. I will ve happy but its pretty bd and heartbreaking to see ur own hard work be undermined by some shit.
Yea, waiting is the only thing WR can do but WN is shit 💩 too. I don't think they will do anything unless they lose a HUGE percent of their revenue.

I'm thinking of making a fan fiction, but altering a lot of things. I'm currently drafting the story in my head, and so far I believe it could be decent.
To follow up on the original topic of the post, I agree somewhat, I do believe there should be some imagination put into a fanfic to make it interesting. However, I also think that BECAUSE it is a fanfic, it could also be fan service.
Depends on who is writing it and the effort put in.

At least those fan-fictions are saying what they are, they can be trash or good, but they are honest. However, some "Originals" don't even use that genre to describe themselves even when they are leeching a huge amount of content from another anime/manga/novel/movie/game. For example this thing:
              https://www.webnovel.com/book/12608498505111905
Called Bloodborne, and yes, you get it, the game from From Software. The author shameless uses tons and tons of locations, personages, monsters and even situations a player can encounter but it is not fan fiction. No, it's an "Horror&Thriller". Yes, that would be the genre of this novel, if it wasn't totally copied on a quite known game. It's like I do a novel about Link in any Zelda game, let's take Twilight Princess. I write about the village, the transformation in wolf and my behavior in the game, the fact that I start by that temple and not that one. That I die against cuckoos because I didn't know about it, ect ect.
I already despise fan fictions quite a lot, mainly because most of them are the wet dreams of teenagers and end up in Harem that I hate but when I see the term fan-fictions, I don't even bother to read. But I am certain that I don't know every movie/book/game and I may begin to read a novel that is a blatant copy of another work not even deemed as a fan fiction just because the author didn't even respect the rule. If someone doesn't know BloodBorne, he can think that this author is talented.

I already said that i don't care about existence but fanfic authors will never understand how hard is it to create something from 0. NO FANBASE, NO WORLD NO CHARACTERS NOTHING...only your imagination and a lot of hard work. People try to argue about this and that...It's the same as popular author write the novel...some people will just read it because it's his work...

Personally I don't like FF at ALL!!

I mean come on! Can't think of what to write? Don't just scam the characters and world of another type of media like anime, manga, etc. and make a FF about it. If it's s good quality anime, manga, etc. let it stay that way! Don't try to bulls**t the story and make up something that isn't even thought out.

Original writers who put thought and effort into creating a world and unique characters are more valued in my opinion than some FF writer with no imagination.

My rant on this post is pretty short compared to others because I've avoided FF.

To all those who write FF, please just publish it somewhere else where it's FF based.

as one of the early posters on this thread... and seeing how new posts are majorly most about how utterly unimaginative and how FF writers should feel bad about themselves, i feel bad for them and for the posters too..

ive read a tonne of fanfics man... so many bad fanfics that made me raging mad and also fanfics that made me enjoy the fandom a lot more...

a lot of people seem to only see the bad side of it, and its true mostly because the good ones are very hard to find but they do exist....

a lot of people also seem to keep saying that there are no writing skills involved in writing FF.... like WTF shit are you smoking, it specially takes great skill in writing to write good fanfics thats why you dont see good ones a lot...

and you seem to keep forgetting that stories that contain some type of mythical lore about gods and stuff are fanfics in of itself that are based on works that have existed... no matter how original you may seem to think an original novel is, there are elements in there that uses a lot of things that have been written by someone else....

but yeah... there are a lot of bad fanfics... and i mean a lot..

this just proves that for a site like this that originated from eastern web novels should also follow in it and not accept western style fanfics...why did i specifically point out western style?

its because ive read a few fanfics made by chinese authors that have a few translated chapters and i would like to see more of them....... FFnet already has a tonne of FFs written in the style of western authors and im sick of em at this point.

I don't care if the FF is good or bad. It's derivate works, and that term is fairly well defined. A separate section is definitely needed.

                    For two reasons.

One is covered extensively in this thread. It's about to what degree FF is original.

The second one is my pet peeve. I have to label my work as belonging to a (commersial) genre. OR I could write FF and land all over the place.

FF needs a separate section anyway in order to sub-label the stories? Is it a romance, sci-fi, mystery, thriller, you-name-it?
