Authors/translators, don’t get too offended. I don’t know how to write this well but let’s be honest everybody. There are some very... annoying things happening on qidian that they know about but don’t address. The first part is how they allow translators to just up and leave their works but the authors/translators still get paid for them. A perfect example is the translator of Appocalypse Meltdown System. The translator hasn’t posted in weeks/months and is probably still getting paid. The worst part about the whole thing is EVEN IF the translator comes back, he/she will only release a few chapters at a time when they had so much time to stock up chapters. Another thing is when an author gets sick or wants to take a break, we all know they have a small little stockpile of chapters they can release but some refuse to do so. One of the perfect example is the novel lone Cultivator in the Modern World. The author is “busy with school and the updates will be unstable.” Understandable. I can’t say anything wrong until a full week goes by and still no updates. An unstable update release and no releases at all are different. All you needed to do is drop one chapter from your stockpile of chapters and if you, the author, don’t have a stockpile then please don’t be asking for Patreons. Because if you are then that means you do have a stockpile your Patreons can access. Also. Last but not least. Qidian. If there is an original novel out there, say BATTLE OF ASCENSION, that has terrible grammar and has a terrible plot then why would you just MAKE HIM PREMIUM? There are plenty of amazing authors out there who write wonderful novels but then I look at this and it makes your new idea of paying original novel authors look flawed. That’s about it. I’m going to wrap it up with haters gonna hate and post some stuff below if this blows up acting in some peoples defense. Don’t. Ur wrong. Stop being so damn PC. If you want to be PC go to a Windows store.

Theres no point in paying qidian if you gonna get these problems which are litrally everywhere in the TL community, well almost everwhere there are some sites that give notices and status updates

WillMissQ We translators are getting paid by chapters so if the TL disappear, they are literally not getting paid [at least by Qidian, Patreon donors are a completely different story that Qidian cannot control].
Sad truth about webnovel is no one cares about grammar as long as the story is readable. The thing that matters is popularity. Since people are reading the book, then it's going to get premium regardless of its grammar. You have to understand that webnovels are not paperbacks. Perfect grammar is encouraged but passable grammar works too.

Lonelytree True but at the same time if their novel is premium and new readers read up to current but don’t update they get paid for the readers. The premium should only show if the novel is being consistently updated on a regular basis

WillMissQ You're overestimating the money we get from premium, especially those that are not updated consistently.

I believe they should re-define their pay to read chapters. The term “premium” is getting less and less appropriate as time goes by.

Threetimess Technically Qidian is and not us. And I don't get why people are so against us getting paid for our hard work. Yes, I know one day we translators will be replaced by machines but until that happens, manual translation is not easy. If getting paid for our hard work is asking too much, then I have nothing to say.

As an author, I can say that most authors I know don't have a stockpile at all.

I actually have a huge stockpile and even when I was sick with a kidney infection and bedridden I still was able to release my chapters. I was even able to do so with a hurricane. LOL, all my readers were very concerned, but I straight up told them that if I don't update then I am probably dead. I even told my husband to continue my story if I ever died (unsure if he would).

Now, aside from that... I am personally a crazy example. I have too much free time since I only work part-time. Original authors (most of them, myself included) don't get paid at all. We do it out of the goodness of our hearts or a drive to maybe go premium (not I (I just assume I will one day end up doing a patreon when I stop being lazy))?

I can see why an author may drop it. I personally made a promise, so I take it very seriously. Hope that helps clear up the side of an original author.

BabyTanuki See I like authors like u. U were the reason why I fell in love with light novels in the first place. Now everything sucks because it’s all about chasing the next dollar.

Lonelytree Originally you guys used to do it because you loved to do it and for the readers. Now there are pathetic examples out there of people who only want money and give empty promises only to never fulfill them. Get popular in the past and the translator would say thank you and we knew he was. Now he gets popular and he starts putting up false smiles while taking the first offer he can to get some money for a shit story.

Lonelytree Asking for more than 100$ for one light novel written by randoms with some dubious translations ? "Technically Qidian is and not us" Aren't you a filial of Qidian ? There is no point in arguing since you are dead set on farming our credit cards.

Threetimess He's just a translator. There's nothing wrong with him getting paid for his work. If you want to complain about prices, blame the company that sets the prices. Don't blame the translator for things they don't have control over, unless you'd rather they stop translating here at all.

[unknown] I don't remember complaining about him - them getting paid ?

"Sad truth about webnovel is no one cares about grammar as long as the story is readable" My problem lies here...
"Don't blame the translator for things they don't have control over" Their can TRY to open an ENGLISH grammar book, don't you think ? Since a book cost more than 100$...

Threetimess But you are basically shit*** on Lonelytree when he/she try to explain you his/her point. Not his/her fault if some translators aren't doing a good job. No need to be mad on him/her.

Threetimess You don't recall writing about them being dead set about farming credit cards along with Qidian? You weren't complaining about their grammar in the comment that I replied to.

Translators get blamed for a lot of things they're not responsible for, and that's what I'm pointing out. Go ahead and complain about the quality of the work directly to the translator concerned. I hope you do give constructive feedback and do not generalize because there are good translators and editors here. If you're complaining about money and how much Qidian charges, they have no say in that. As far as I can tell, they don't even get to say which novel goes premium. I don't like the business model like most people complaining on the forums, but I know we should not direct that anger at the translators.

I really like how there are currently several "premium" novels that are MTL. Not only are they machine translated but they aren't even edited.

ace_cap Um I blame the person who didn’t go get a degree like other real books that get published and spend thousands of dollars to go in the pursuit of said degree so they can maybe make a novel that a publishing company might decide is worthy enough to sell. Not the many (and I know there are a few on here who might have degrees, get off my di¢k thank you very much) who just can write a few chapters of a novel for a trend that is popular now, guaranteeing them at least a few thousand readers (maybe) and when and if they become popular they jump at the opportunity to make money off of it. Yeah those are the people to blame buddy
