Hello everyone,

I'm a relatively new user on Webnovel, drawn in by captivating stories like Omniscient Reader. The concept of sharing chapters and connecting with fellow web novel enthusiasts has been an enjoyable experience for me.

Particularly engaging is the vibrant community of fan fiction creators. I believe both readers and writers in this niche would agree that it's a fantastic environment, filled with creativity and enthusiasm.

Recently, however, I encountered an unsettling experience. I was banned from a Discord server centered around fan fiction for a popular anime series. This left me perplexed because I had observed the dedication of the fanfic writers, their passion for the original work, and their collaborative efforts to expand and explore new dimensions within the story.

As I delved into discussions, I noticed a recurring theme – writers expressing frustration about the lack of engagement with their stories. This led me to wonder: why not share their fanfic on Webnovel? There's a sizable community here that loves to actively participate in the comment sections, providing the engagement these authors crave.

So, I posed the question: "If you're already uploading your fanfic on other platforms, why not consider Webnovel? The readers there would appreciate your passion for the original story!"

To my surprise, my suggestion was met with a barrage of negativity and harassment. Comments like "Webnovel is evil," "Scummy contracts," and accusations of taking advantage of authors flooded in. I found this confusing because, in my view, posting on Webnovel is no different from posting on any other site; after all, it's fan fiction.

However, I was banned from the server for promoting Webnovel. This left me disheartened as I had genuinely enjoyed the discussions.

I'm struggling to comprehend the animosity toward Webnovel, not only from fanfic enthusiasts but even among original novel authors who claim mistreatment through contracts. We all share our stories for free, driven by a love for the original narrative and a passion for writing.

The prejudice against Webnovel's reputation not only hampers readers from discovering our stories but also denies authors the opportunity for greater engagement with devoted fans of their narratives.

Am I misguided in my perspective? Can someone shed light on the actual issues at play? I'm genuinely puzzled. Even if there are concerns, how can we alter this negative perception? These fandoms should be actively participating in our stories here. So much amazing content!

There are a lot of people that hate webnovel for various reasons. When this site first started there were already a lot of sites that were translating stories then found webnovel was doing those same stories. Sometimes the translation quality was good but a lot of the time it was crap. This pissed off a bunch of translators and when they mentioned it to their readers the hatred spread. I was reading novels on several sites and the forums were filled with hatred for webnovel, accusing them of theft and plagiarism and some comments were just outright racist rants because of the asian origins of the site.

Now for the comments about contracts... webnovel is a company, and most companies' main goal are to make money, so the structure of the contracts is for webnovel to make enough money to pay the author and make a profit. A big problem is that some stories are very popular, and the authors make far more money than the vast majority of the other authors. But if you have a bunch of people who write stories and they are not popular, they don't get money, and this makes people pissed, this leads people to say webnovel cheats authors, and if enough people say the contracts are crap, then everyone believes it even if they don't know the truth of it.

Hope this helps, if other people post they may be able to fill in more of the blanks of why there are a lot of people who get upset when people mention webnovel.

As he said the companies goal is to make money which can lead to particularly predatory contracts, these contracts are designed more for writers from less affluent countries, most contracts (unless you'r very popular, but if you are a popular writer you wouldn't contract with web novel) are not going to make you much money by first world country standards. My recommendation is if you are in a poor country and not making much money, go ahead, but if you have any sort of popularity where you are getting more than a few dozen dedicated returning readers, there are much better options for pay. If your trying to get know posting on every site is advised including webnovel
