  • Rant: Don't Butcher Chinese Names Please

Is it alright to name a person as pine tree? Like qing song?

Hi! Sorry for bothering you again, but what do you think of the name Ye Chen Yuan and what does it translate to? I'm hoping it fits for the character I'm writing. Thank you so so much again!

Hi! I'm here again for question πŸ˜‚ May I use Li Hua, Gu Jichen and Tan Luo as male names? 😊

BerriApplepi li hua is a female name??
I can't say that gu jichen is my favorite. there's something about it that's offputting... it's so-so I guess
tan luo is just like jichen.... so-so

          chonnie that's not bad.
I don't know what it translates to. you see here, numerous chinese characters share the same pinyin form. just 'ye' itself could be 叢 (leaf), 倜 (night), or 葉 (leaf 2)

            What about these names?
            Huli Zhi (Male)
            Jie Cheng (Male)
            Jian Li (Male)
Bai Ling (Female, might have asked about this one already)
            Li Heng (Male, Demonic character)

yaoyueyi ok. Any suggestions for a scholarly, intelligent characters (instead of Jian Li)?
I ran a name I thought of through Google translate and it worked out how I wanted it.
Does Shen Jianting sound good? If not, what part sounds off

Hi! I have several names here, I hope you can give me inputs (if you don't mind ofc)
                For the story background:
The story takes place at a nation which is separated into 5 areas, each symbolizing an element and governed by a clan: North/Earth (Lin ζž—), East/Air (Di 笛), South/Fire (Feng 净), and West/Water: (Qihong η₯ζ³“). What are your thoughts about them? I'm a bit concerned with Qihong since I made the surname myself.

                For the characters' name:
Zhen Yinyue (珍 ι“Άζœˆ) - is this too generic?
Feng Yang (净 昜) - I initially wanted 阳 Yang, which one is better?
                Qihong Jun (η₯ζ³“ 俊)

yaoyueyi What about "Hao Xuan" ?
Its a direct translation of my own name which I did through a Chinese site, but never really thought about how it would be for a native speaker. Also, if its okay, could tell me what it means? Just wanna see if what the site recommended was good.

shinigami8671 there are many different chinese characters that all have the same romanization. therefore, I wouldn't know the exact meaning unless you gave me the characters. but it sounds fine!

SamantaAng di is not a surname. not a big fan of qihong, but the other two are okay.
not a fan of yinyue honestly. it's so-so. I don't really like the other too either, but I think definitely not the yang that means sun for his name.

                        yaoyueyi

                        What about:
Zhen Xiangyue ( 珍 ζƒ³ζœˆ) (forgot to mention it's a female name XD)
Jiang Mutao (η–† 穆梛) or Jiang Wanhe (η–† 琬 ζ²³) (male)
Feng Junxu (净 君旭) (from your manly name list)

SamantaAng sorry for the late reply!
but I honestly prefer yinyue over xiangyue :joy:
and I prefer wanhe over mutao
                          and feng junxu is fine!

yaoyueyi It's alright! Although I'm kinda worried bcs you were gone all of sudden πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Tbh I kinda like both yinyue and xiangyue, is there any specific reason you prefer yinyue more?
