as a person who was once in an illusion like state, the best way to deal with a hallucination is to establish your five senses what I'm seeing, can I hear it? can I touch it? can I smell it? can I taste it? once these have been established the battle of logic can begin sometimes it's an obvious thing i.e mice cant talk other times it's more difficult especially when you're seeing a person you know.
when this happens find something that sets them apart from my mental projection of themselves for me and my trip; we are seated down having a snack and I noticed they are eating something they usually couldnt, my best friend hates avocados, she's allergic, in my hallucination we were having guacamole and I wondered why she wasn't dropping dead or puffing up like a puffer fish.
then the other things start falling into place, the sky isnt yellow, and this fisheye effect is not usually there...
Once logic is applied shock happens, it comes in waves i.e this isn't real, its time to wake up followed by a very nasty falling sensation to which the world spins into black and I wake up the next day with a brain-splitting headache.
that's usually it for me, that being said all that happened when I was touring the world at 19, I was roofied but my friends got me home, stay safe people.
