  • Qidian should have a subscription type payment plan like Netflix/Hulu

holy waht, now i'm unable to read wn anymore 😭

Hamper This. I can't justify paying hundreds just to read chapters at my speed. So I'd rather read them elsewhere. But a fixed subscription fee I'd be willing to pay. Beats the current trash system.

      I totally agree.
Based on Webnovel's lacking system, piracy could be an issue with a subscription format. But nevertheless, it's an idea worth considering for them. Not only can they establish a steady income stream, but they can transform "free" readers into paid ones.

Additionally, they can have a hybrid subscription model where different paid levels allow different amounts of free chapters. For example:
If a chapter on average costs 10 SS, and 50 SS = $1; thus, 5 chapters = $1 with the current system, then...
$5/month = 50 free chapters of choice (doubles current chapter/$)
      $10/month = 125 free chapters of choice
      Etc.
This way, it might protect Webnovel from having people with subscriptions pirating the novels on another site.

I'm not sure, but either way, I do hope they'll think of some new system!
$1/5 chapters is just too much considering some stories are 1000 chapters or more. Imagine $200 for a story! And you're not even getting a physical book or even e-book.

Currently, the business model seems to be locking novels past chapter 70-ish for new stories.

It's stupid, and will only make people stop reading the novels because people are just not invested in the story enough to pay to read.

Honestly think the subscription idea is possible, or they could go back to the old system here only a certain amount of chapters are locked instead of just keeping ALL chapters past X locked regardless of the length.

Right now people go to pirates bcos of the ss system is too stupid.

Cute_Melon we want to supp translator but the qidian SS system is to ridiculous.. poor reader can't afford that.. so they go to pirates. Which ones? Who knows?

QI has no shame in expecting us to lay out good money (hundreds of dollars per novel) for poorly edited pastiches of cliches which are released at a glacially slow pace. It sickens me to think of how brazenly money grubbing they are.

If they fixed their greedy business model and held authors accountable for low quality and infrequent updates, then I would consider paying a subscription fee. I will never pay per chapter: I would rather not read the majority of their content, and pirate what little is worth the effort.

Back before Webnovel days, translator groups used to make enough money to make it worth their while with Patreon, while still keeping all the content free, by offering patrons early chapters. QI could easily do the same, with a reasonably priced monthly subscription service and make a tidy profit, I presume, given the economies of scale involved. Certainly if they stopped hosting a lot of trash novels. At any rate, they could make their business model much more reasonable and discourage pirating, if they cared enough to put even a little effort into it.
