Gourmet_DAO I definitely agree with separating an author from his work. Unfortunately, not everyone manages to do that. You are right, as said before, reviews are subjective, just like the works they are reviewing. However, that subjectiveness counts only if there is a valid example+explanation. A review (or anything really) without proper explanation for why it is the way it ism is simply not qualified for a review. That is what I believe. You will also see people defending theirs nonsensical reviews by saying “it is just my opinion” but having an opinion does not make you immune to criticism.

Just as a book can be critized so can a review. And thankfully, we all are human, and should have respectable mods which can separate spam from constructive criticism. And then maybe we can also have people seeing reviews and scores as a legitimate source for recommendations,

Woebegone Not initially my idea, I think it was StenDuring, but a like or comment on a review could be exp instead. This sounds good to me. It’s basically the same as exp comments in the actual story. While I don’t really care for the xp comments, might as well do the same for reviews. I think just liking reviews or comments would be best though. Or maybe have the option of either.

If the situation with 1 and 5 star reviews can be changed, it is possible only by - gingerbread and knout

That is, if 1 star is given without an objective explanation. then you need to subtract user experience points. Same for 5 stars.

The rating of the novel is the same "fair" game. If there is a group of promotion, left accounts, then please, this is like Hirsch citation indices ... there would be your own people, and you can still wind up a rating.

for quality reviews give for example 10 SS.

But you need to be simpler, it's just a game ... by cheating a rating, a game of the mind, using interesting marketing moves and all sorts of advertisements.

Although it is more interesting to play “Go” ... well, everyone has their own hobbies, everyone has the right to engage in the kind of hobby that they like if it does not violate the rules of the game.

Woebegone My point was that the levelling rewards are non-motivational. Sure, if you just like being anhigher level, you will care. But the rewards just allow the user to rewatd more authors. There is nothing in it for the consumer.

Hyowha It's not a slippery slope, true. It's a cliff. No author should be able to delete reviews. So long as that "feature" exists, the entire review system is pointless and should be scrapped. As for nonsensical 5 star reviews, I was undee the impression the star system was for translation quality. If that is the case, then both 1 and 5 star reviews should be common...just not on the same chapter.

Maekellen Yes that was not what i was arguing. I most certainly agree that adding a delete function will be abused by authors and is generally a bad idea. The topic of my discussion was about whether nonsensical 5 star reviews should be deleted if nonsensical 1 star reviews are deleted too, nothing more, nothing less.

Hyowha If reviews are to be deleted for any reason other than duplication or language concerns (which wouldn't exist if it's a pure star system) then the review feature should simply be disabled. Even "obvious trolls" are not always intentionally trolling. We cannot know for certain their reasons. Admittedly, often it is so transparent we can think of no other reason, but we still cannot be certain.

Chryiss I'm incline to say scrap the EXP gifting for verbatim altogether.

May work for KFC food surveys where you score free chips after saying what you think.

Books are different. Readers will say what they think if they're passionate enough anyway.

EXP is better used to entice spend. Example is buy 5 chapters gain exp points to a special exclusive bonus only available via exp points. It'll be another form of currency that is only gifted on actual spend. Reaching a level could mean you receive early releases or discounts.

I think more, keep the review system without reward. Unlocked once a Reader has read %80 of the book.

          20 days later

I just posted a review on an original novel like a day ago. It was a blunt review. I gave her like an average of 2 stars. And I just opened my WN app and saw two responses to my review. One was from the author and the other, her top fan or maybe a friend. The fan went all defensive and rage-y when I literally didn’t even attack the author personally, just criticized the novel. The author was quick to jump in at being defensive. I agree that some authors have been abusing the delete review thingy. Smh. You can’t even get honest reviews these days. I was wondering why I couldn’t see a single negative review there lmao. Her other novel is the same case. cringes

          8 days later

Just want to point out that one of my reviews (3.5 stars) was deleted twice. It was neutral, focused on facts and had some of my personal suggestions for the author to improve his work after reading all the free chapters. Thought it was a mistake/bug so I reposted the exact same review. (Had it in a word file for spell checking)
It was gone again one or two days later, this time even all the related notifications (when users liked it or responded) were removed. The novel, which I am not going to name here, has now not a single review with less than 4 stars and has improved it's ranking by a 0,5-0,8.
Not sure who is responsible for deleting my reviews, but by now I am getting really frustrated. I get that troll reviews can be a problem, (both 1 star AND 5 star), but what I experienced feels like blatant review score manipulation by either the author or the website.

Ansraer Try scoring it higher just to see if they keep it? Since the review system is our of wack, at the very least you possibly deliver your input and have your real score included in the review.

I haven’t personally witnessed that, but yeah, scoring manipulation is not right. Even I haven’t deleted the various 1-3 star reviews I’ve received including the troll or ‘no content’ ones.
