  • Tea_Tae Not at all.

Many of the defects appear after the free chapters end. Especially notable is when the translation quality drops.

I have literally spent over an hour looking through the lists and no, it is NOT my problem. WN throws specific LN's at the reader but if you want to search for something without a specific title in mind, you have to scroll down genre lists that are not even alphabetized. As far as I can tell, there is no form of organization. You cannot target or eliminate tags to make the lists more concise either.

And even when I was purchasing coins, I still used all 3 general fp's and uses points to buy the 2 weekly. I was just trying that many stories.

Regardless of whether you believe itnis difficult to find something good to read or not (this is subjective after all), it does not change the fact that WN charges a premium without providing a premium service. If I could count on the translation quality and all stories to be completely translated, it might be otherwise.

    • There are many settings that would justify a harem situation for the MC. 99.99% of the harem translated works I have read have settings appropriate for others in the story to have a harem, but not the MC. His family is currently being oppressed? Dogpile him! He saved my life but is in love with someone else? She must accept me!

My personal favorite though is the MC that is comepletely oblivious to anything while persuing strength yet somehow falls into a premade harem...despite never being at home.

Moat of these stories would be better without harem. Some, though, could not exist without it simply due to the comedic effect being the sole redeeming feature of the story!

      • Tea_Tae At this point, I have to ask if you have even used WN? Not as a writer, but as a client. Many of the genres are erroneously cross-typed (many legitimately as well). The majority of praised, recommended, highly reviewed works are just copy-pasted garbage of garbage I have already tried and rejected (same generic and illogical beginning with only the names being changed), translations that mysteriously decline in quality once you have to pay for them, a review system that allows writers to DELETE reviews...

Seriously, yes there are some excellent treasures here. Unfortunately they are buried admist the piles of trash and generally are not worth the time, effort, and money it takes to find them.

        • Grand_Void_Daoist Beats the writers swappimg positive reviews. Let's be honest here, WN really has nothing left to praise (from a customer standpoint).

        • Tomoyuki Wsite.

When I said print is by page and web is by word count, I was referring to cost for purchase rather than how tbeauthor is paid. I did not clarify it though, so sorry for the confusion. It may actually be by word count still, but that is not the impression given to the reader and impressions/emotions are more important to the majority of purchasers than facts. Just ask any marketers.

And yes, I DO stop reading if a story goes into constant repitition. It does not change a fact that most of the stories on here utilize this gimmick.

The largest problems I personally have with WN is the lack of quality control and the fact that they don't guarantee a complete work. Either one of these is enough not to spend money here, much less both.

Oh and by quality control I mean translation quality. Different readers will view different stories as quality.

          • Tea_Tae Again, no issue with a 3 a day limit...as long as the reader gets to pick where he spends it. The reason so many readers complain about no good books is because 99% of the works are ao poorly translated that attempting to read them are downright painful.

Of the remaining 1%, most are carbon copies within the same genre. A good number are just poorly written. These 2 categories are usually what gets pushed as recommended. Most have us have actually tried the feature; it is just crap.

Do not complain about the free FP. When they were free generics I purchased coins on a monthly subscription. I either primarily used the free f's while trying new works or to catxch up if I ran out of coins. The problems with many works on WN do not show until after the free chapters after all.

Now that they were changed, my subscription has been cancelled. The authors got more money with the generic fp's. Only WN has benefitted from the change as theyhave driven many folks away. This can be seen from how many of the old posterd have disappeared from the site.

            • Yoan_Roturier It is only exposure when the ranking system is controlled and disciplined. No expeeienced user of WN even glances at rankings.

            • Darth_Xiane Well, it is actually a pay-extra-to-read current feature. After all, you don't see privilege on free chapters and it is literally impossible to read ahead. As soon as an author posts a chapter, that is the current chapter. It doesn't matter if it is hidden behind a second pay wall or not.

              • Tea_Tae I would agree with you, if the 3 FP were still generic. They are not and thusbreaders are no longerbgetting 3nUSABLE fp's a day.

                • Tea_Tae Save I have zero interest in the daily recommendations. Any system that "encourages" the reading of works one is not interested in to "earn" the right to read those you are interested in is inherently flawes.

                  • Cosmic Eh, the majority of system novels are annoying as hell. The attitude of the MC doesn't affect this.

                    • Tomoyuki Well, most printed novels don't have clearly delineated chapters anymore. They may be obvious in placement due to indentations, supposed quotes from the novels world as a heading, et al; but they usually do not have chapter numbers or titles/headings.

The only reason i mention this is because printed novels and webnovels use different metrics for novle length. Print is by page count and web by word count. In addition, there seems to be no consensus among web authors about how many words should constitute a single chapter. Finally, and this may be a cultural thing, seem to pad word count through repitition. I have seen the same paragraph, merely reworded, 3-4 timea in a single chapter. This is useless fluff that distracts from the atory and no one should have to pay for.

All of this means you cannot always tell how many volumes will be comparable to a completed web novel. Further, as the original work is termed a novel, it is entirely accurate to make the comparison as price per novel instead of columes, series, et al.

                      • Darth_Xiane Wait, WN employs translators still? I thought they were fires to increase revenue given the MTL quality translations!

                      • Misguided_Rooster From a historical perspective, monogamy is trash.

From a literature perspective, it CAN be a useful plot tool. This is particularly so as polygamy was the default for most of human history. Love, admittedly, had little to do with it though as it was primarily for procreation and ensuring the continuation of lineage.

Unfortanately, most authors do not seem to know how to use it. I've read very few harem works where the handling of the harem did not detract from the plot of the story and fewer still where it added value to it. This is the fault of the writers though, not the harem tag.

                      • Tea_Tae You have to know it turned itself on to turn it off. This usually occurs when you go to the next chapter and it unlocks itself. At least for me.

                        • 3 free general FP was good. The current incarnation with genre or work specific FP is ludicrous.

But seriously, a treasure hunt? Not worth it!
