She is right now on the run from her sect and the evil god that needs her to perform and open a door to the other world. Basically, that evil god wants to enter the other world where more power lies and he needs a holy maiden and a person from another world to open that door.

I've read somewhere that jun wu xie was wu yao's teacher in the past, she taught him and another guy and he fell for her. One day she disappeared and wu yao sort of made a world and made a woman that resembles her but found out she's like a shell of her and not actually her or something like that. He was broken hearted he destroyed the world he created earning him a negative reputation and thus called devil.

                        The other student created his own world to give the two a chance and this is the world they are in right now.
