GreatSage_Master1 To my knowledge, they win competitions hosted by WN as first places. Others are contracted works.
GreatSage_Master1 trending, daily, new etc, is just like a lottery. Everyone can get picked (happened to me before signing the contract more than once).
To appear in the recommended or bannered, tho, that's only for contracted authors.

Daily updates is just that. Publish daily for "enough time" for a total of "enough words" and you'll end up there eventually. Don't ask me to define "enough".
