Currently, am writing ancient times arc for my story and there is this drought in the dynasty as always (obviously, trite and cliché, yes yes I know😛)

However, I was doing some research last night and realised that all those sound waves by loud drums or the reflection of mirror/glass rays into the clouds doesn't
affect the water droplets in the atmosphere to condense into clouds and make rainfall.

Those are the only two methods ancients can use to make rain except for praying and dancing and they don't work scientifically.

According to science, what works is seeding the clouds which obviously, my MC can't do without all the gadgets that are too far into the future.

Now, my artistic mind and engineering heart are in chaos and I can't go with either one with a worry-free conscious

Yeah, yeah I know am writing fiction but I had rather have my story have some basis in some form of reality than all claptrap

    So what exactly is the question? How to make rain?

    If so, there's a case of fire creating rain. A large enough fire can cause intense heating in the air, inducing convection, in which the air mass rises to the point of instability. This causes moisture in the for of clouds and rain. You can see this phenomenon in wildfires.

    However, there has also been research suggesting smoke can actually delay rainfall, so, take it as you will.

    Without the proper equipment, causing natural weather phenomenons are pretty hard/almost impossible.

      hyowhari lol... The question is as a reader, would you rather read about dramatic scenes of gongs bellowing, people chanting etc or about how the clever FL did something like reflect rays from the mirrors or increase temps to induce rainfall

          Make "Dry Ice" which apparently your MC can do because of plot armor, freezing Carbon Dioxide that can be found in bodies of water (Glaciers, Ice caps, Rivers, Lakes, etc.). it can make the coming of rain go faster than usual natural rain. Going to high places like mountains is also recommended as higher your altitude are, the higher the air temperature decrease. 1000 meters = Drop of 6.5°C / 43.7°F. Also make it far from the equator seas , because the farther you are from it, the colder it gets. Cold currents travel from the poles towards the equator carries cold water, When that current moves towards the coastal region, the temperature of that particular area becomes lower. Mountainous areas as I've said earlier, greatly affect the amount of precipitation in a certain region. There are two sides in which the wind blows, the "Windward side" and the "Leeward side". The leeward side begins to absorb heat and becomes warm and dry, so less precipitation. But the windward side is the area where the wind blows, and the wind is blocked by the mountain, forcing to move upward. As the wind moves up, the water vapor condenses and forms clouds, resulting precipitation and rain.

          Oh and try to search Dry Ice, Silver Iodide, and Salt Powder, maybe you can make a quasi-method for making rain.

          If your MC is a chemist as well as an engineer it shouldn't be THAT difficult to apply some pseudo-science. After all you're after to have your readers believe it's at least plausible.

          I'm assuming a Chinese:ish context.

          We'll assume he can, after all kinds of exciting difficulties, procude the chemicals needed to be delivered into the clouds.

          Or, in the land of silk -- hot air balloons. Send it up, detonate the entire thing. Expensive as hell, but at least plausible.

            The MC is a female who has taken over the body of another girl who is masquerading as a monarch with no knowledge about science lol

            I don't know why I started writing about the drought. I just mentioned it in a line or two but then my mind conjured an entire arc about imp characters meeting her while she tried to solve the drought problem
