  • What does a novel needs in order to go premium?

The webnovel contract is shit and doesn't pay you anything. Patreon is better.

Webnovel contract offers a minimum of $200 every month for the first four months even if nobody gives you any spirit stones.

If nobody supports you on Patreon, you will get absolutely 0, no matter what.

Then does it mean all webnovel non-contract writers who does not have a patreon account does not get paid,I don't quite understand? What about those who don't even have the idea that something like patreon account exist?if you don't have your fans support you don't get paid?

Flabbergasted It means their work pretty much as zero commercial value (no readers are interested in their writing)

Imagine an artist who can sell their drawings for millions vs a three-year-old child who can 'draw' stick figures. Just because the child can 'draw' hundreds of stick figures a day and him working hard at it doesn't mean he should be paid for it. There's no 'value' created for others.

Then that means it is only the month that you are able to write up to 40k words that you will get paid right even though you don't have patreon account as long as your words is up to 40k words you will definitely get paid right?

Flabbergasted I think so? You cannot have your story on a Patreon account if you sign a contract. They are two different things - if you accept a contract, you must remove your story from Patreon. As long as you write 40,000 words a month, you'll get paid $200 minimum if you're under contract. For the first four months anyway.

I had best deal with this myth regarding Patreon. Many people seem to think Patreon is an effective way of making a quick buck. That you'll get donors and followers as long as you have a story and a Patreon account.

That is not necessarily the case.

In Royal Road, for every successful writer who gets hundreds of followers on Patreon, there are dozens of writers who get 0 followers. Maybe 1 or 2 contributing a dollar or two a month. You can write over a hundred chapters and promise regular updates and still it is very likely that nobody will donate to you or support you on Patreon. And when you have 0 followers, you have absolutely 0 income. Perhaps one or two of your readers might take pity on you and donate $1 a month. 5 if you're lucky.

Yes, there are people who earn hundreds or thousands of dollars a month on Patreon. But can you be one of them?

Bottomline: if you think Patreon is a great way to make a quick buck, and that you'll automatically get donors and followers by virtue of you writing a story, then all I can say is that you had best lower your expectations.

I'm not promoting the contract here, but generally Web Novel only offers contracts to people they know have a good chance of success (based on data, statistics, readers, votes, etc.). If your story isn't popular then you won't get a contract. And if your story isn't popular, I'm not sure why you think you'll magically earn an income just because you decided to go independent and create a Patreon account.

I know writers from Royal Road who mistakenly bought into the Patreon hype. Months later, they're complaining about how they have 0 followers or donors. Cool, you might have 100 followers or 100 people adding your story to your collection, but the reality is that a very small percentage of them will be willing to donate or support you on Patreon. Moreover, you're competing with many other writers on the same platform, and you (the writers) usually share readers with one another. Most readers can't afford to donate to and support all the authors they follow. So unless you're super-confident that you can compete with the best and most popular and steal followers or supporters or donors from them, it's best not to have any great expectations when creating a Patreon account. Otherwise you'll be whining later about how nobody supports you on Patreon.

Of course, if you want to create a Patreon account, go ahead. Nobody can stop you. It's entirely up to you. But I think it's best for me to tell you about the bitter reality and intense competition so as to absolve people who think Patreon's a great way to make a quick buck.

Thank you so much for your advice.it wasn't because I wanted to earn a big buck that I wanted to create patreon account,I wanted to know whether webnovel normally compensate authors who are not contracted writers by paying them a certain about of money even though not because of anything but because of the money that they used to subscribe just so they could write their novel but now I'm aware that webnovel does not pay any writers except contracted writers .Thank you so much for your time.

Flabbergasted Ah, the Patreon bit was meant for everyone, not just you. The answer to your question was only my first paragraph.

covid19 Generally you need to be on the top of your category section for contractor to find you, I don't even have that many collections like 1,500 approx collections and 400k views...

                  Thanks for the info.
1500 collection means a lot of people! Looks like author's work hard.. 😔

Collections and Views don't really matter, I think bottom general consensus is top 350 on rankings but that may change due to the merge of rankings.

SinB But you can't improve your ranking if you don't have enough readers. And money comes from readers so the number of readers is very crucial too.

That's correlation, entirely different from the point I was making, but yes, you're right.

                          a month later

UKIRA Doesn't webnovel only do contract for novels who has over 50k wordcount overall? I see that you earned your contract at the early 15th or so chapters on your book, how did you do it? Could you explain it to me? And do you earn every month from it?
