I know there has been threads about this and I did try searching for them but couldn't find them.

I recently realized that my story appears on a site called fastnovel. I know, I don't need to tell you that they didn't bother asking for my permission. I want to know what I can do in this case.

I have sent an e-mail to them, asking them to take down the story but I don't think it will be answered.

It is best to contact them, they do have a policy for copy-write work so it means someone found your novel and post it on there.

Issue the website host of fastnovel a DMCA takedown notice. You can google the needed steps to take in order to issue one. It's not that complicated, but requires some work from your side.

The_Cheese I know they do and I have sent them a couple of mails that have got no response so far. This very same case has happened with my sister as well and her emails (that she had sent weeks ago) neither have got any response nor have those people stopped posting her chapters. This is ridiculous.

Cantiara I don't mind the efforts it demands but I do mind the money it does. I did check it out and I would have to pay for it if I haven't misunderstood it. Sigh.

Afaik, you only pay if you hire a DMCA agent to send the notice for you. But you can do it yourself, there's plenty of DIY DMCA instruction on the net. One thing you have to know is you shouldn't send the DMCA notice to the website but to the internet service provider where the website is hosted.

But maybe it is wise to seek legal counsel before you send the DMCA notice, as I said there are plenty of DIY instructions on the net, and if it goes smoothly, it will result in your content being removed on the pirated site, but there's always this grey area with the law that makes things a bit tricky. If you decide to do it after you peruse all the DIY DMCA instructions on the net, still make sure you have enough ground before you send the notice.

Cantiara Even DIY DMCA takedown demands charges. Minimum $10 and I am not ready to invest any amount of money here. It is these people who are at fault. Why am I supposed to spend any money? And no, I don't expect an answer from you. I am just letting out my frustration. 🙃

You can get your novel down from one site, but what about the others? The novels are going to get aggregated and I doubt there's going to be a way to prevent piracy like this, and in time, more of these sites are going to pop out into the world. Just do your thing here, and publish your work on all sources that you can publish and control.

Preceptor I know what you are saying and this is such an unfortunate reality. This particular site called Fastnovel - they have no option of creating an account and posting stuff there. Basically all they do is steal stuff from Webnovel (and other sites as well? I don't know about that) and then they have put these ads on their sites and woah, they are making money from the novels they have absolutely no right over. How infuriating is that!

                    LostInFictions

                    Really? $10? (for what?) 😳

Anyway, I did a quick search, this is what I found.
                    https://sarafhawkins.com/how-to-file-dmca-takedown/

It doesn't say anything that you have to pay. But, I could be wrong. It's just for your perusal, you don't have to do anything with it :)

And if people are allowed to rant about not getting free coins anymore and make tens of different threads just to ask "WhY DoN'T I GeT MY CoINS AfTER ReADING??", then you, my dear, are free to rant about pirated website(s) stealing your content as much as you like! 😉

Can you believe that there are still people who proudly promote these pirated sites to others just because they can't or don't want to pay for the service that is legally offered here on WN? SMH...

Cantiara I know. I have been reading everything. It's disappointing to be honest. Extremely disappointing.

I mean, just imagine there is some XYZ restaurant that you often go to and you try different sandwiches there. Now, during the initial days, their sandwiches were free for they wanted people to try them first and establish themselves. After a while, they begin charging for their product - sandwich here. People still visit the restaurant. A couple of people find the quality of sandwiches not up to the mark yet they continue visiting the place in hope that they would get better. As the time passes, the rates increase and people start complaining.

                      A. If you have consistently tasted the product and it wasn't up to your taste, why would you think that they would give you anything different without any reason? It is how it has been. It is how it would be. Now whose fault is that? The customer's or the restaurant's?

                      B. You always knew that it was a business. Business needs money. They are here to make money other than providing you a platform to read. There is no point in getting upset over this because if you are thinking about your benefits, Webnovel is thinking about its. Simple as that.

I think that that first thing that pops into my mind is, "Wow, this site wants to use my below average novel that isn't even really good and put it on their site? I'm offended but slightly in awe."

Then I just stop caring since there's no way it's going to be taken down since I'm too lazy to pursue the copyright stuff...

Yuyumamoru That's a very cool perspective though. I have been banging my head since morning. I have heard that it takes the contracted books. My book barely has five chapters. Contract is another thing altogether. Here I am, wondering - why mine? 🙄
