Neverfire7 I would (though conflicted). If in the same situation an AI was in charge and made the same choice (considering how automated stuff is becoming nowadays) does that make you feel differently about the choice?

Al_theGenie Although I feel an AI shouldn't be in charge in such situations (due to their lack of emotions and thus lack of fair, human justice), I feel that if it made that choice, it would be most correct, for an AI to make, as it follows the path of utilitarianism, on the spot, something that AIs probably would and (to an extent) should be programmed to follow (best action to benefit the majority). Of course, the concept of utilitarianism has its flaws... Even so, there's the thought of no emotions in it, so it's a frightening thought.
Oops... Sorry for the long answer...
If you were in a burning building and you had to pick one or the other and then leave, which would you choose?:
1) The only person (other than yourself) in the building, a child
or 2) A famous painting that could be sold for millions, which would then be able to help even more children
Bearing in mind, that when you choose one, you get it in perfect condition (the child has no burns or trauma, the painting is not damaged) and the one you leaves behind burns to... Non-existence, shall we say.
Neverfire7 The child. I'm not an AI, I would worry about about my mental stability later. What if I?......and so on. Plus what if after I save the child it becomes a sensational story leading to the formation of a large charity foundation, with connections and continuous support (basically sth money can't buy).
And I honestly don't think I could think that far ahead in such a situation, I'd reflexively go for the child.
Basically, A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
Follow up to my last question what if the 5 were elderly retirees and the 1 was a child/teenager, does that change ur choice and do you think it would change the AIs?

Al_theGenie Good answer
As for your question... Ooooph... This is really gonna hurt me... I know what you're trying to say... The potential of life in the child is far greater than the potential of life in the 5 elderly retirees. Whilst there are more lives in the elderly group, there's only one life in the child's group... Hmm... The child has a lot more potential than the elderly people, however, the elderly people have a lot more unique knowledge than the child. I don't know if the AI would choose the greater number of lives, the greater amount of knowledge or the greater amount of potential. I've got a feeling the AI would choose the elderly because they two factors in favour of them, whilst the child only has one.
As for me, I'd probably choose to save the child. I know that's probably the cruel thing to do, but... thinking about it, I don't know why I'd choose the child over the elderly...
Ugh, sorry for the long answer again...
Related to your question, what if the 5 were normal children, with normal education and living circumstances, and the 1 was a child prodigy (who would definitely later grow on to be a leading scientist or something for humanity), the same age as them? What do you think you'd do? And what about an AI?
I'd save the prodigy no question. 5 normal people in exchange for one who could possible save the world with something they build or whatever maybe the prodigy might end world hunger. AI would probably do the same thing.
Would you sacrifice yourself to save the human race or if you decide not too you gain godly powers but you are forever by yourself the only living human on earth?

Geass11797 Definitely sacrifice...even without the forever alone thing I believe I can do whatever with my life and if I choose to value the common over myself, it's ok to sacrifice. But if I don't value them, I'd let them burn.
Would you rather be famous when you are alive and forgotten when you die or unknown when you are alive but famous after you die?
Neverfire7 Honestly I don't have life figured out yet but think about it like this .....we have no idea where lifewill take these 5...they could be the bodyguard that gives his life to save the prodigy later in life...but that's extreme. The potential of the genius is capped. We already know how he's gonna turn out....we know nothing of the normals, they could be under achievers or exceedingly over in another field.....excellence is more than intelligence.
Al_theGenie be famous while I'm alive I guess because it doesn't matter what people think when I'm dead.
Would you choose to save the life of your mother or your daughter if you only had one choice. This is under the impression that the person who answers this has a mother and/or a daughter.
Geass11797 I'll save my daughter I'm sure my mother would want me to. This is not because I love my daughter more but I my mother loves her more than me now so it's my daughter. Hahaha

What is your motto? :smirk:
Time is gold.
Why are u too lazy?
StndrdDvtn It's in my nature to be lazy. Can't help it. I'd rather laze around than do something I'm not interested in.
Why do you sleep late?
JcsHillgirl22 Time is precious, no need to waste so much by sleeping :smirk:

Supreme_Idler Anything that has meat in it. But for my real favorite, it would be a dish called 'Pinapaitan'. I'm not sure if it's a dish, but i like it cause it's full of intestine and it's really savory. Too bad for me, I can only seldom eat it.

whats a weird thing you like to do?
Unorthodox_Deity Thats a tough one, but does mental masturbation counts? If not then, i always sip a mouthful of drinking water and put my fingers on my lip to let the water flow into it before eating, (i often do this when the food is too hot) and when i am not using spoon and fork...
Whats would u prefer, Immortality or invulnerability.
Regnarts29 Invulnerability. Being immortal would mean you would have to suffer through making friends and starting a family, only to have them all die as you live. It would be an awful, sad life, that I would prefer not living.
What's the most embarrassing moment you can recall?
I was doing a presentation in which we had to present an autobiography of someone and when we presented we had to wear a costume. The thing was I forgot my costume and the guy right after me was presenting the same person but he had an AMAZING costume...let’s just say I kept my head down after that.
