I very much prefer ss to this coins cause honestly its slowing me down if I want to read other books without fast pass yet my coins are piling.. Can't the coins be used to read?

Yes coins are the same thing as spirit stones. I think you may be confusing points with coins, points cant directly unlock chapters.
