I am an author. How to I deal with a user that is harassing me on webnovel. He is spamming reviews, hundreds of comments, every minute. I deleted and reported some of his harassing comments. Is there anything else I can do?
How to deal with user harassment as author.
Kirbyisgreen Are you talking about GrandElder0? Go onto Discord and talk to CKTalon about this. I hope he can help you.

FunnyBuns Oh, I've read his novel. It's smut. It contains quite a bit of...questionable things.
However, it is one thing to have domestic abuse and quite another for it to celebrate it. A story can have domestic abuse, there is no reason to condemn a writer just because his story has domestic abuse.
It is quite another, however, if he romanticized it. Are you referring to how Chen Wen Tian is treated by Zhou Zi Yan or what's-her-name? If I remember correctly, Kirbyisgreen is not defending domestic abuse in a sense that Chen Wen Tian can go around beating up women. He is simply saying that, yes, Chen Wen Tian suffered from domestic abuse and that impacts how he will turn out later in the story. He's defending his decision to have domestic abuse in the story because he intends to treat the subject matter seriously and not romanticize it.
At least that's how I interpreted it. I could be mistaken, but I think you overreacted by saying that he should not be allowed to write domestic abuse at all rather than allowing him to explore the subject in any meaningful way.

FunnyBuns Huh? That makes even less sense. Isn't the point to show how Chen Wen Tian is affected by the domestic abuse, and he ends up turning out the way he is, being socially awkward at first? And I thought Kirbyisgreen meant that there is nothing wrong with making Chen Wen Tian a victim of domestic abuse (basically nothing wrong with writing a protagonist who has suffered domestic abuse), not that he was defending it. He was saying there's nothing wrong with it because it is part of who he is and how he turned out.
not going to argue with a person who is bent on harassing me. I will just say that I banned him from my discord for breaking the rules and he decided he didn't like that and posted the same comment on all 157 chapters of my novel. Then when I deleted those, he decided to do it again and again.

FunnyBuns Oh, Discord. I don't know what happened there, so I can't comment on that.
I personally don't like that either, but I would just drop the story and move on. That's just my opinion. Neither you nor I am the author, so if we don't like the direction it goes, we just drop it and find another story that suits our taste.
Tomoyuki And now he is vandalizing my wikia page for my novel. https://immortal-only-accepts-female-disciples.fandom.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges?hidebots=1&limit=250&days=7&enhanced=1&urlversion=2
Kirbyisgreen Uh, even if you tell me that, I don't know what I can do. Probably email the host and tell them to do something about it?
Tomoyuki I'm just letting you know that this guy is off the rails and there is no point talking to him.
FunnyBuns why waste you time on a story you don't like. Also is not the first time wn has allowed stories that glorify domestic abuse or rape. Even the justify reason like she deserved it or it was to show my love, stupid and reckless. Just drop it and don't add more popularity by doing more comments and making a bigger fuss of it. if he delete so be it, is not like some readers will stop reading the novel because of you. But I do get your frustration but this isn't a way to behave either:) anyways find more fun stories to read.
Ps: author I haven't read your story So I don't know if what he says is true or not, I am only pointing out that other stories have this problem so don't feel pointed out. Have a nice day
FunnyBuns Yeah, honestly, I dropped the story because of her. I sympathize with you, and like you, I absolutely detest Zhou Ziyun.
However, I don't think that justifies spamming or harassing Kirbyisgreen. Honestly, I think it's best to just drop the story and move on. Find another story that I like. As others said, his isn't the only story that glorifies domestic abuse - the CEO stories in particular are pretty vile. That's why I avoid them like the plague. But I'm not going to bother commenting on them because they aren't worth my time (and mostly because they are not to my taste).
FunnyBuns ghosting :) but I do understand that. One of the translated novels annoyed me so much that I had to write a review warning people from reading it. How dare they call it romance, the first chapters starts with a rape and the Ml declares it because he loves her. She even hates him but it turns into a novel that's all about miscommunication between the couple.the Ml mentally abuses and rapes her but no is just a sweet story according to some readers. Sorry for blabbing on, it makes wanna puke. And now I am angry fck...
You not liking contents of a particular story does not give you a right to harass the one writing it. Understand this that he/she deleting your comments and reviews that seemed unpleasant to them is mostly for their own mental well-being than to hide it from other people and that shouldn't be an excuse for anyone to jump on to him this aggressively.
It's fine that you don't like domestic violence. I don't either. If the story has it like you are mentioning, I probably wouldn't be able to go past even a few chapters but that doesn't mean I will go and spoil his story with harsh comments.
Choosing to move on and find a better story according to your liking seems a far peaceful and nice option. Now you and I do not know why the author wrote what he did but right now when you are harassing him, do you understand that it could affect him severely?
We do not know what people are dealing with in their real life. A lot of people are depressed in life. Let's rather choose to be a little understanding and let him write what he wants to and we head out to find the tales of our liking, shall we?

I kind of agree with GrandElderO's need to voice an opinion, but the method of the approach, by historical observation, isn't an ideal one. Since it's a given that the instinctive reaction from the author is going to be hitting the delete button. To be honest, I'd hit that delete button too if I felt I was being attacked or accused of something untoward.
Also reposting the same complaint over and over can make one come across as a Spammer, Troll or Cyberbully. Who wants to listen to them? This action is an instant closed door.
So one way to handle content dissatisfaction on this platform.
If you do find something offensive, call it out constructively with author as a comment. Make your point with facts. Most likely the writer has no idea what they're writing is offensive to someone else.
Be kind to help someone be wise. The way opinion is expressed can be either food for thought or incite feelings of defense for the recipient. Remember your purpose for expressing your point. Do you want to make Author aware of a fact or annoy them?
I hope most readers want to help Author understand something they might not be aware of. So give them the facts and in a way that will open their minds and ears for listening.
- Only call out the issue once. If the comment is deleted, move on. The job is done. Use the book report flag button if you feel it's warranted.
The only people who should matter if the content is in violation of some law, offense or guidelines is Webnovel Staff and Writer.
The onus is on the writer to be aware of content laws, restrictions etc. They're the ones to suffer the consequences of publishing a story.
As readers, we have the privilege of highlighting some things based on our experiences and knowledge. We're not content police. Leave it to those who have this role. In this case, Webnovel staff.
FunnyBuns There are a bunch of novels on the site with racist and other dehumanizing/degrading themes.
If you hate a novel here don't read it.
If you can't stand the fact these novels exist leave WN outright. There are other sites with free webnovels.
You're not running this business so don't bother trying to force your views by nagging the author. Don't bother trying to "police" this site. It's not your place anyway.
