  • All The Writing Prompts contest sucks

Can somebody please tell me why in the hell Webnovel keeps giving out these lame story ideas. For the last 3 months I have been following the contest and nearly all the ideas were lame.

Like the one currently we have now involving writing about a father figure etc. No author will ever make it here if they follow webonels stupid ideas. Like the last contest winner only has 19k views despite being shown on the front page. One may wonder why is that, but it is very simple. The writer had a boring story period. I don't blame him personally, I blame Webnovel.

Original authors are all ready stuggling to compete with the crapppy Chinese translation novels, now Webnovel has decided to screw them more with the writing prompts.

Here are some cool writing prompt ideas.
Space miner
Bunker in a doomsday world
Armory in a megical world
casino in a cultivation world
brothel in a cultivation world
space junk recycling ship
restaurant in a doomsday world
police dude has an Arresting system
*vigilante uses fantacy little drones to fight crime etc.

Look I'm not saying that I know everything which I don't. And I'm not saying these ideas are anything special. All I'm saying is give original authors a fair chance to succeed. Personally I hate Chinese novels with a passion simply because of their moronic authors. Like why can they never stick to the plot huh. Like dude gets a farm system and all of the sudden it turns into a cultivation novel. That's the reason I don't read that crap.

Anyway if you understand what I'm saying then that's good, if not then it's ok too cheers. Btw, this is a new account cause Google banned my other accounts for hate speech. 🤷‍♂️

    You could literally have written these in WPC #120 I traveled Millenniums into the Future that was held 3 weeks ago. The WPC prompts are meant to be broad enough so that you can write whatever you want. You just need to be creative. Or your police dude/vigilante can be a father figure. What's stopping you from writing that story, and making the police dude/vigilante a father figure? See, it's not that Webnovel is restricting your creativity, it's you who are being narrow-minded. You just have specific things you want to write about, but when they don't seem to fit the WPC prompts, you become upset.

    Also, your "prompts" are incredibly narrow and restrictive. It's like you already decided on a very specific theme.

    We also had an apocalypse WPC a few months ago, so if you really wanted to write your doomsday world thing, you should have done that then. And as I pointed out, they are broad enough to let you write whatever apocalypse story you want, whereas yours are so oddly specific they leave no room for imagination. Like, bunker? Restaurant? So we can't write about anything else?

    Original authors have a fair chance to succeed, and your ideas are just more specific versions of what have already been done in past WPCs (magic worlds, game worlds, apocalypse, sci-fi, etc.). So...I don't see why you have such a problem with them.

          If you don't like the topic, then don't participate. It's WN that decides the topics. Who knows how they choose them? Sounds to me like you just want something that aligns with the idea that you have in mind, so that you can have a shot at the 'glorious' contract.

          Take my recent entry for WPC 122 - reincarnated as an object. People came up with all sorts of objects. I decided on a truck that runs into people.

          I didn't even decide to enter until someone offhanded said, "I wish someone would run over that guy," in response to an insensitive comment. I immediately thought of the truck meme.

          Aside from turning my MC into a truck, there was nothing restrictive about what could've been done.

          Roll over annoying people - check
          Make fun of WN and what goes on in the forums - check
          Make fun of the 'popular' genres like CEOs and cultivation - check
          Turn random WN authors into fellow trucks for the fun of it - check
          Add geese for no reason - check
          Make fun of WN for offering me a gold-tier contract for a hot mess of a story that is so random and weird that I have no idea how to continue - check

          I did all of these and more, and it spawn from just one simple idea. So, the real question is, are YOU capable of doing the same?

          And don't try to say anything about me being an experienced writer. I'm virtually unknown here. I stay in my little corner for the most part and write for fun. And I haven't even been writing for a year. If I can succeed with a half-hearted story, then you could too if you really tried.

          Stinky_Stan iunderstand you frustration but your promote aren't that much better:) they are also restrictive. Also this whole prompt writing is more for fun then actually serious business. Unless the prompts suits the novel you writing. I mean sure you could probably create and force out some epic chapters but in the long long it will be hard. This will only create more blocks down the road. Just write what you want instead of going for prompts or wait for the ones that suit you taste. Until then just work on you story. but yes I agree some of the prompts have been stupid but who knows if it will lead to some good novels being created.

          PS: I wonder if they use a prompt generator! Or do research and create prompts that suit wn business.

              Yes you said you didn't blame the story but it’s the decision of WebNovel Editors for choosing that prompt winners. As a matter of fact, it’s their right to choose a story that can possibly source of their funds. Yes. Business is business to them if you know that. Their work isn’t for free. They would never choose a story that don’t have a future to boom. Maybe they saw the story has a-“unique plot”, “chance that can pique the interest of everyone” and they just need to polish it so it can sell. It’s their thing to do. Remember, a man will never invest to a certain thing they know that will never earn a bunch..

              Hope you don’t just spill your rants here by throwing negative words to those winner’s creation such as “crappy” or “boring” just because it didn’t suit in your taste. They did their best shot to make story entries with the given prompt right on the spot after the announcement of prompt ideas. It’s challenging for them though. Hope you don’t compare their works to those cliché plot you liked. If you want, try recommending that kind of plot directly to WebNovel instead of throwing hates to the previous prompt story winners.

              Also, Webnovels created those novel prompts to encourage the writers to showcase their talent and share to other readers the stories they made. By using the prompts they made, they are also helping the writers to explore other ideas and make them to think out of the box.

              If you’re not contented with their story why not trying to write your own story that suit in your taste?

              Not everyone in this world or in WebNovel will adjust just for you because the standard you built to yourself is different with everyone’s standard. Everyone have different standards. So am I. You don’t need to problem it as if your life’s on the line.
