  • Now that we have a new system for trial read, what will become of the previously picked trial reads? Will they be released and translated in the future or will the new system only focus on pre-picked books?

  • NGL What are these trial reads. It's like we've rewinded back to a year or two ago where all the OP cheats in sudden apocalypse survival was churning out like crazy.

    • I think it's more of a monetization problem. I feel that when webnovel popularized original novels, translated novels became much more irrelevant due to its much smaller publishing rate compared to the rate of original novels and the amount of variety available, regardless of quality. Now, several years later after the popularization of original novels, the popularity of translated novels is at an all-time low, even when the quality is great, bringing much lower income to translators, resulting in the company resorting to MTL. I feel that in these few years, webnovel has lost a great number of readers/customers/patrons of translated novels in exchange for the counterparts of original novels. However, it could also be due to the increasing number of piracies sites available, which makes it unprofitable to even try translating their gold mines from their Chinese counterpart. Maybe they are hoarding those titles until a much higher leveled anti-piracy protection is available. Honestly, there are so many reasons, but personally, I'm leaning towards the first one.

      • I'm not going to lie, the new pilot reads are looking good. Despite like every other batch, they rarely get chosen and what comes out in trial read is most likely one outside of the batch of pilot reads. I hope that changes for this batch, because they sound so good to read!!!!!!!!!!

        • It's useless to discuss any of this. Any additions regarding this topic are open to be exploitation, which makes it infinitely more difficult to implement in any way, shape, or form.

I don't think Webnovel has the manpower to do so without reducing it's efficiency and standard in other areas.

        • What I see from most novels with female protagonists on this site is all about romance, finding a soulmate, love betrayal, etc. Even in Chinese translation novels, most are about come back, traveling worlds for love, acting for love, time travel for love, etc. They are also more geared towards reality and real life in general.

However, I seriously doubt that all female readers have the same preferences, similar to how different groups of humans have different likes and dislikes. There maybe some who worships knowledge and would like to see a truth pursuing female protagonist, or some who'd like a female general who commands troops to achieve a thousand victories. Even if some novels do incorporate some of these elements, it always leads back to love and romance, a more permanent kind. There is also always headache inducing (my opinion) drama that I don't understand the need of.

Another thing is that people read light / web novels for a different reality, no matter how fictitious it is. If this is the case, why is it so limiting in the variety? Why can't there be a wide, all encompassing selection of books portraying female protagonists? Just anything, for power, for knowledge, for wealth, for survival, for a profession, etc, any ideals, not just love.

          • Is it me or does the protagonist feel too extreme or unstable, but plans and actualize ideas with what seems to be a more stable mindset?

I feel like so much of the inner monologue of the protagonist is very unnecessary with so much repetition. Does anyone else feel the same?

Giving that the protagonist thinks and plan about his every actions so much to benefit himself and his family. why is it not possible for him to realize that some of his actions resulting from his extreme personality would put them in danger, yet not change, and yet still assert, many times, that he loves his family members?

I haven't read too much of this story. I've read up to around chapter 250 before, but stopped. Now I reread until around 30 chapters and it makes my head hurt. Especially from all the unnecessary and mentally exhausting monologue in my opinion.

            • Asuku It's the exact same for comics, toggle off the auto unlock chapter section.

              • This trial read is much better than the other generic ones from the same genre : Deep Ocean Survival: A Submarine From The Start

                • Asuku Go on the app, click on a book, and click on the text so the menu slides up. By scrolling down, you should see the toggle button for whether to auto unlock chapters or not.

                  • ZeroX0666 Probably the use of MTL and after editing if it often occurs. In my opinion, it's extremely easy to tell the character between he or she.

                    • Probably not. Instead, it'd most likely be considered as sexual harassment and some sort of pedophilia or sexual misconduct on minors charge.

                      • They would definitely translated it. Based on how most of Cuttlefish Loves Diving's novels were fully translated on this site give somewhat an indicator that they are in a partnership of some sorts. In additionally, Lord of the Mysteries is a very popular series, so it would be extremely profitable to have the right to translate it into English, though I'm unsure how much aggregate sites would affect these profits.

                        • Although in the past gender bender stories weren't too abundant, they weren't lacking in numbers either. However, after a while, especially after the new tag system was implemented, there were barely any new ones, not to mention any popular ones. Where did they all go? Is it related to something like-out of trend?

                          • I don't understand why people dislike some Chinese trial read novels, which contains no racism, nationalism, or arrogant MC, preferring these types of tags instead. 🙁

                            • Mr_Night He or she probably means that you should write your own story instead of basing your idea off another story's background, which in this case is one piece, so you can improve your writing skills.

                              • KelseyOwusu Honestly, ads will probably never happen since the purpose of them is to get people to see the advertisement and do something base on it. If there are going to be ads on webnovel for coins, people are just going to probably leave it on and do other things, making the ad pointless, even wasting money from the person or company who put up the advertisement.
