This is a question, rather than a proper discussion.
It's only possible to get 3 fast passes per day and 1 extra every 7th day from the daily check-in.
I don't have a major problem with this, despite the fact I can only read 3 chapters of my preferred books (since I can't afford to waste money buying coins). The major problem I do have is why do they expire? And why is the "points" system so pathetically worthless? You can only buy 2 things, a 1000 point fast pass and a 2000 point fast pass. The cheaper one takes 2 days to buy due to the 500p/pd limit. Readers like taking breaks from reading to stockpile chapters and marathon them, you know.

Basically, why make something so hard to obtain expire and why implement points when they're worthless?

Morgan_Ring Webnovel tried to be ambitious with the Point System but then it failed and ended up with what you see now.

As for why Fast Passes expire, simple: Fast Passes are like coupons that give you a 100% discount on chapters. And as with all coupons, they are short lived.

So, despite Webnovel not actually owning the novels, they charge exorbitant amounts of money for coins and make it futile for people who want to read for free. Honestly, the author's would get both more money and readers if they were to self-publish or use another site. Webnovel really should be more reader-friendly.

Morgan_Ring So, despite Webnovel not actually owning the novels

Webnovel does actually own the novels. Whether it's the Chinese novels or the original novels (if you sign a contract with them, you hand over your rights and ownership of your novel to Webnovel in exchange for royalties and the potential for media adaptations), Webnovel and its parent company, Qidian, own the rights. Those stories they don't own the rights to, do not have any premium chapters and do not require fast passes or coins to unlock. And there are plenty of them. Just check out Kazesenken's stories, for example. They are all free because he didn't want to sign a contract with them.

Morgan_Ring make it futile for people who want to read for free. Honestly, the author's would get both more money

How are authors supposed to get more money if they allow people to read for free? That makes no sense whatsoever. Also, many stories here are available for free so how exactly would they get more readers even if they use another site? It doesn't make a difference. It honestly sounds like you are complaining because you can't read premium stories for free and because "you can't afford to waste money buying coins."

Webnovel is not perfect and they certainly can be more reader-friendly, but a lot of the complaints seem to be based on "I can't read x story for free!" than any legitimate issue.

This may be anecdotal, but I earn absolutely zero by posting on another site or self-publishing. At least here I can get the minimum guaranteed sum of $200 a month. Also, I seem to have a lot more readers here than I ever did on Royal Road or Fictionpress. While I can't speak for other writers, I can personally say that your statement

Morgan_Ring Honestly, the author's would get both more money and readers (judging from collections and contributions) if they were to self-publish or use another site.

is not true, at least for my case.

Morgan_Ring pretty sure they do their best to frustrate us into paying for locked chapters because if not whatever they’re going for was not aimed at the target

Their aim was to help writers make money from their writing. So they have achieved their target in that regard for most writers.

If you feel frustrated because you have to pay for something you want to read, then either you have never visited a bookstore in your life, or you don't care about "supporting the authors (which is frustrating to see - oh, I want to support you, author, but I don't want to pay for your story/I want to read your story for free)" or you can just read the many free stories on the website that do not have any locked/premium chapters (it's almost as if the whiners discount the existence of free stories altogether).

There is always online source. Dont see issue with premium being premium. But that webnovel is greediest company I have yet to see. Its true. Prices are sooo inflated. To read Reverened Insanity at last premium chspter u need....? 50-70 EURO A MONTH. best premium on Chrystalis costs 20 a month. And RI is one novel. There are tons f novels. Soo if u gonna read them your costs here can go up in hundreds.

Reverend Insanity is not one novel. It is a single series comprising of many volumes. Just like how Harry Potter is a series of 7 to 8 books. Nobody in their right mind will claim that the entire Harry Potter series is a single novel.

            a year later

Tomoyuki I meant single book on webnovel. We aren't paying for those.
