When writing a novel based around humor, how does the author know its funny? That the situation they put their characters in won't fall flat in the eyes of the audience. Is there someplace I can test run my situations?
Comedy Novels
As a (wannabe) comedy writer, I usually laugh at what Ive written myself, that is during the writing and after, while proofreading it.
I mean if it's not funny to you then what's the point.
(I laugh my ass off seeing what sh*t I wrote but then again, Ig my humour's a bit different)
Also, I'd say get someone else to read and ask them if its funny like ur family, friends etc
Bc the only way to know if its funny is to test it on an audience, readers
Well, as long as you think it is funny and will made the reader laugh. lol. If the reader commented a laughing emoticon most of the time and not only but say ten of them. Then it might be funny. lol
Check the comments. If you think it's funny and 90%+ of the comments say it's not you should leave the genre alone.
If 50%+ think it's funny then it's funny for enough people to keep going.
Mlkanjesus1 There is a tutorial in TED ED about comedy writing, it was very helpful for me.
