The Beast and the Maiden

The maiden of many islands,
Whose womb was of the east
Chained like an animal,
Whose fault was of the beast

Ang dalaga ng maraming isla,
Na ang sinapupunan ay ang silangan
Nakagapos nang parang hayup
Na siyang sala ng halimaw

Though she bore the pain given by the monster;
He had always been loved by the maiden, the dreamer
Although she was treated as the blackbird;
She longed for her cry to be heard

Bagaman kaniyang dinala ang sakit na ibinigay ng halimaw;
Siya parin ay magpakailanmang iniibig ng dalaga, isang mapangarapin
Bagama’t siya ay ituring itim na ibon;
Hinahangad niya na marinig ang kaniyang sigaw

And so every night, she mourned of a time,
A time to roam, at the beach by his side
Footsteps, she wished, that would be left behind,
Fiddling with his, during that time

At sa tuwing gabi, siya ay nagdadalamhati sa pahanon,
Sa panahon na siya ay malaya, sa dalampasigan, sa tabi niya
Mga yapak, na kaniyang ninanais, na maiiwan,
Nakikipaglaro sa kaniyang bakas, sa panahon na iyon
Would it ever come? No one knew,

For if all she did was to dream,
And all he did was to sting;
All I could do was to give them my woe
Ito ba ay darating? Walang nakakaalam,
Kung ang ginawa niya lamang ay mangarap,
At siya naman ay maghatid ng hapdi;
Ang maari ko lamang gawin ay magdalamhati

I too, dreamed of an oath,
The beast and the maiden, by the meadows,
Singing together, songs so mellow
That was a dream, if all she did was to hope.

Ako rin, nangangarap ng panumpa,
Ang halimaw at ang dalaga, sa parang,
Umaawit ng magkasama, mga kantang malambing
Iyon ay isang pangarap, kung ang kaniyang ginawa lamang ay umasa.

this is unrelated but i took an interest with ur piece and i would like to get some permission to use your pice in my novel. Yes Filipino ako and I am writing a novel that is based sa time before we are colonized by the Spaniards.

I don't think the author used too much flowering words. May it be any language, anything can be translated. Plus, when translating, it is unnecessary to translate it word for word. This is a common mistake people do. The important is the essence, the meaning, not the words. Deep or shallow, anything can be translated despite the language but not by word for word.
