I have started writing not too long ago. The main reason why I started was just to have fun and relax. I've read a lot of stories here and on other platforms and I said why not?

As I went through the first few chapters I realized how much joy it brings me and how fulfilling it feels for me to actually create something that I call my own. I don't get many readers or many collections but I did get a contract for it. To be fair, I didn't know much about contracts and I was just relieved thinking that my book has been at least liked enough to get the contract. But then I read some things about contracts and realized it's not that big of a deal as I initially thought. But again, the recognition for me would be just a bonus since I am already having a lot of fun writing.

Honestly, I already planned most of the ideas that I want to incorporate into my book. However, I plan to write quite a lot, and so far, I have already changed quite a few of the initial ideas for the book. By the time I reach the actual milestones that I have set up for the book, lots of things might have changed already, from the plot to even the idea itself. And so, at this point, sometimes I even "forget" it's my work and I am just excited to see how it will continue, because until I have hit that publish button for a chapter, I might change it a hundred times. I know what the next chapter for my book will be about, but I am eager to see how that will be written.

Regarding having a few readers, well, I feel like usually the more diverse your book is, the higher the chances of someone finding something they don't like and dropping it are. It also means that they will surely find something they like, but it will balance the things they don't and in the end, they might not even put it in their library much less vote for it. But that's fine! After all, it all depends on what you are writing for. If you are writing for money and you try to have a very big audience, then yeah, it might be frustrating. But if you are writing just because you really enjoy it and do not care as much about having many readers, then even one regular reader is enough.

Just knowing that someone else really enjoys my ideas and writing is usually enough for me to continue writing.

I started writing about a year ago and really enjoyed doing it. Even with the lack of comments and reviews and such, it didn't really deter me in writing something that I wanted. So there's that aspect. Write because you want to, rather than seeking recognition.

It probably took a month or so before a couple of comments trickled in. And even now, a year later, there's really not much activity for a novel that has over 150 chapters. Those that commented or reviewed were welcome, and I used some of their input going forward. Otherwise, I'm just crafting a story that feels interesting to me.

I apparently have a decent number of collections even though it's not contracted (so low exposure), but they are all silent readers. It is what it is.

Even though my stories and grammar are not that good, I am still continuing to write my novels, short stories or super short stories for the reason that this site gave me a chance to continue my writing hobby and meeting people like me, who are writing because they have that kind of creation flow into their veins.

Septic_Red Yeah, pretty much. I think I do well. It only matters if you are really putting effort into the stories. So I feel yuh there.

Hi I'm new here I just want to know what I have to do. To be recognized on this platform

HotRedFlaming we’re very much alike. When I started writing, it was just for fun, it was just to kill time.

I was and still am a good thinker but back when I started, i was very terrible at writing. I knew what I wanted to write but I didn’t know how to express it in words, I still didn’t care about that, I wrote my chapters and posted them knowing I wasn’t very good at writing (I wasn’t that bad, it was still interesting for those who actually read it with open hearts and mind). I got affiliated with works of other great writers and as I kept writing, I could feel I was changing, I improved a lot but I still feel discouraged whenever I read other works, it just makes me feel, Who would want to read my book if there are many writers out there who are better than me. I’ve not given up though, I’m still writing to this day. I realised my book really was bad when I posted more than 13 chapters and I didn’t get any chapter comments, not even a single one. I’ve currently posted 15 chapters and still no comments. It really hurts but I guess some of us aren’t just meant to be. If you’re curious, I’ve got 10.5k views and 8 collections

Janettejustynne that’s tuff. I’ve been the- I still am there. I get no reviews, no comments and no votes. I have only like 8 collections. I’m really broken rn, I might give up writing soon.

LaziGamer Exactly. Just a word of motivation would keep us going. I started writing a while back but up still haven’t gotten a single comment for my book. I’ve gotten no reviews or votes either, the people we’re writing for are the ones discouraging us.

I guess we’re underdogs in the sense that we don’t have much exposure? You can’t be a good writer at first try. You need to hone it thru time. I’ve been writing since 14 (stories that I’ve finished and were read by classmates and friends) and I’ve gotten a lot of feedback. Some are good, some are bad. But it really helped me improving my skills.

Don't give up guys. The beginning is always hard. If you are still a starting author, don't get discouraged easily. Some writers get the recognition on their second books or further. Just continue writing and learning. You will get there.

Janettejustynne Great question. I'm surprised nobody asked earlier. If you're serious here is what you do.

                  1. Give honest feedback, if a plot point isn't working or the dialoge is weak because the characters all sound alike SAY SO. You're hurting the author if you don't point out what went sideways.
                  2. Don't be the northern end of a southern bound horse with your feedback. How you say it is just as important as what you're saying.
                  3. Encourage other writers, if you have an idea to help them out, let them know. Even if they don't use the idea, it might spark something else. Be excited for them when they finish a chapter or solve a problem.
                  4. When they get better, tell them.
                  5. If you see them about to make a mistake that will ruin their book... TELL them, especially if you made the same mistake.
                  6. Share resources, web sites, books, forms etc.

well, it's the phase that almost every newbie goes through. There are people who are going to criticise and at some point, you will feel like, ok like no one is interested in your book but I believe one should believe in themselves. I think you should sort your priorities first.
1- You are writing because you love storytelling and writing,
2- Or you are writing as a profession.
In latter case, I would suggest you to prepare yourself for tough competitions and better learn few tips and tricks to make your writing and story entertaining so you can make writing as a profession however if you choose 1 option and are like me who love writing just for fun and for love of writing then the only thing you need to do is, be honest with yourself. Write things which makes you happy and be happy. You didn't need to get pressured, You should just write what makes you contented and writer inside you feels happy. Believe me, there will be people who will read your book and may become your fans too. It doesn't matter if they are few in numbers, what matters are that there is actually someone who is reading your book. Don't get disheartened because of few readers and fewer comments. There are people who like to read silently and maybe your readers are silent ones

So just smile and gear up.
Just write and feel happy after all we are writing for happiness, not for fame.
I believe fame is secondary, it will come when it needs to be and even if doesn't come it was not our first choice lol.

[unknown] there are somethings that Ive learned why my previous stories didnt succeed. The main reason was because I didnt know my audience. I was writing randomly and people wont care about that stuff. But when you have an audience and a proper plot that follows the mainstream or what people want you can easily succeed.
