SO i read this during trial read and thought both the novel itself and translation quality were pretty good, but it seems after it passed the vote the quality has sharply dropped, with every chapter being riddled with mistakes, the fact that they mistakenly translate a certain weapon into a gun instead of a spear/glaive (Unsure what the exact chinese word is, but machine translations translate it into gun) makes me think they are using machine translation software and editing it.

Seriously anyone who can speak Fluent English and Chinese check out how terrible everything about this translation is, especially the past 50 or so chapters, it's really badly edited machine translations i swear, not the type of treatment a top 20 translation deserves.

The grammar and formating is particiulary bad,

            So it's basically some monetized fan translation instead of coming from those professional translation groups? I guess nowadays the temptation is big for people to buy subscription to one of those pro machine translation platforms like deepl, and just pretty up the machine translation to make money as a "translator".

              PjBaek Just because someone slaps the label "translation group" on it, don't assume that means they are professional... Whelp, there are good translators and bad translators, which is irregardless as to whether they are part of a group working together or not.

              As a matter of fact, fan translations have provided most of the best quality translations on average to date (because the translators of the stories had invested their interest in the novel far more than some professional translators)

                    it's millions of times better. at least the translator kept all of the author original words and meaning. in this example the translation is so blatantly using mtl but that's not the worse part. if you use mtl and heavily edit then there is almost no difference from directly translating it. But this translator literally deletes and paraphrases a sentence basically every paragraph. 1/3 of the entire story is missing from the translation. at least this translator doesn't randomly delete the authors words, so even though if it's a bit confusing you can still understand what author is trying to say.

                      Joshua_Lee_5926 machine translators do not understand slang, context, homonyms, puns and idioms. Just editing mtl is not “basically the same”. GTL is a prime example of this, as it tries to compensate and provide a “smarter” translation, but this leads to all kinds of inconsistencies, and it holds no continuity across a translation of an entire chapter. Each sentence is its own translation.

                      Translators who remove stuff from the work, particularly sentences and even entire paragraphs are one example of what I mean by terrible translators.. The translator for legendary mechanic did the same thing. Just like anime dubs, if you don’t know the original content, it’s all fine (and you just have rubbish VAs), but once you do know what they originally said, sometimes you will be shocked.

                            This is what the official translation of that paragraph is:

                            During Version 1, Hila was a boss who had caused beginners on Aquamarine much grief. She had many nicknames, one of which was the 'Goddess of Death'. She would eventually attain 'Celestial' class strength and rise to prominence in the Cotton Cluster.

                            Now, exluding my dislike for the pronoun translations through the novel, you can see that a lot of been cropped out here. (Before anyone throws a tantrum that pirate sites don't have accurate raws yada yada, this is taken direction from Qidian)

                            I think I only checked the first 10-20 chapters, and there were bits cropped out all over the place and shoddy translations. There were a bunch of puns regarding the two henchman at the start to joke around insinuating that they are homosexual, also cut out.

                                That's not cool imho. Translators should stick to giving an accurate translation of what the writer wrote, and not rewrite the novel.

                                    Joshua_Lee_5926 Edited MTL and proper translations are not the same, and so much is lose in translation, but honestly, AMBAL fails in the editing department aswell, it doesn't read well, it's full of broken grammar and terrible formating.

                                        Webnovel is garbage but there's nothing you can do about it. you should just be content you can at least read stuff. nobody uses webnovel anyways, just use aggregators.

                                            it depends, if you mtl and actually go through the entire chapter word by word and fix everything then there's almost no difference. but some translators just edit a few words and publish it. at least you can understand most of the story, there are novels on webnovel that have almost no difference from mtl. obviously webnovel shouldn't be using mtl but webnovel is originally a chinese company so they barely care about their international readers.
