  • QI supporting novel that plagiarizing other works ?

The Great Thief are blatant rip off of World of Warcraft. We can see a lot similarities between them in characters, lores, dungeons, items, palce names, etc. Why novel like this have almost 400 chapter release here ? Are QI turning blind eye to plagiarism ?

I wont get shocked if they did. Afterall their parent company did sign contract with Vivibear (titled by Chinese as Plagiarist Queen) right after the ruckus about her work plagiarizing a lot stuff revealed on Internet. But still, this made me ponder how low QI would go ?

if you did not know. Both are Qidian novel and the later did similar stuff to the former.

you have no idea what you are talking about

      1. chinese law only requirse the chinese local company to be "shared", so blizzard is not required to sell part of its share

      2. blizzard is cooperate with a neteast on chinese market, a different company from tencent (techinically a rival of tentcent)

profiterole When it comes to matters like this, there is the idea of Fair Use.

The third factor assesses the amount and substantiality of the copyrighted work that has been used. In general, the less that is used in relation to the whole, the more likely the use will be considered fair. Using most or all of a work does not bar a finding of fair use. It simply makes the third factor less favorable to the defendant.

The fourth factor measures the effect that the allegedly infringing use has had on the copyright owner's ability to exploit his original work. The court not only investigates whether the defendant's specific use of the work has significantly harmed the copyright owner's market, but also whether such uses in general, if widespread, would harm the potential market of the original. The burden of proof here rests on the copyright owner, who must demonstrate the impact of the infringement on commercial use of the work.

So unless Blizzard's lawyers come knocking and prove that it is beyond fair use, it is hard to say if it is plagiarism.

So you are saying unless QI get DMCA they gonna turn blind eye on stuff like this ?

profiterole It's not my place to comment on this. I am not an expert on fair use. It will really depend on Blizzard or the respective copyright holders' decision, and that it even counts as plagiarism.

Can I write novels, screenplays, theatrical productions or other adaptations based on your games?

Isn't qidian just a novel hosting site? Besides, QI just translates the popular novels in Qidian
Why do u make a big deal out of everything?

huaf You can't make money out of fan fictions. Qidian International is a part of Qidian itself and Qidian has to take responsibility for all the laws they are breaking. Qidian has a contract with author and Qidian makes a portion of the money author makes through his fanfic so they are also the responsible party. Qidian is not just a simple hosting site because they contract the authors and also make money from it.
