Directly support authors on webnovel!
Really? Are they seriously putting this?
So I've updated the app yesterday in preparation for an announcement on my book. Let's just say I told my readers they can get a better edited, more polished version of my work somewhere else, with a lot more content for their money than they would've gotten from locked chapters here plus being able to support me better than they would have had I taken the contract. But then I go and see that webnovel is now putting that phrase everywhere.
And as if that couldn't get worse, they're also putting ads that take up half the screen. On my uncontracted novel!
Even YouTube didn't get this low, making money from unmonetized content. But I guess I should've expected this much. They don't pay ad revenue to anyone, not even their contracted authors.
Hey webnovel, there is something called shame you know? Have you heard of it? How about you fix your predatory contracts first? And please stop using the authors to pressure readers into giving you money. You made it clear that they no longer own the rights to their works once they sign your contract, stop pretending that you care.
I'm sick of this. I will delete most of my work and only post the bare minimum. I feel bad for the few readers I had but this is becoming unbearable. Pretty sure this post will be deleted, not by me of course, but we will see. Have a nice day.
Webnovel, are you serious?

I'm glad you brought this up. Around a year plus ago I mentioned that authors are entitled to money from ads revenue which in the contract states that any money made from the author's book should be split in half between webnovel and the author. Then came an author whose name I won't mention said that how much money is even in the ad? Translators don't make that much from it, so why was I making a big deal out of it. That's not even the point, if you choose to give your money to webnovel that's on you, don't go telling others they should think the same. It's sad but I'm happy someone is with me on this.
Whycanti Well, like you said, there are a lot of other platforms, so you could always direct your readers there.
AS far as WN and all the opinion you stated, I am biased, but I understand your feelings.
I also saw you are self-publishing from your chapter announcement. Good luck in your endeavors.
AriaKang yeah I always see those people, always defending webnovel by trying to put down anyone who complains.
Like every time anyone dares to say the contract they offer is bad. Their argument is most of the time is that webnovel writers are nothing to brag about so they should just shut it while they get exploited, saying WB is doing them a favor.

Whycanti I'm not a contracted author, and if I were offered a contract I'm currently on the fence on whether I'd take it. That being said, having looked into the contract, I think what it comes down to for the author who has that decision to make is what they think the value of their story is.
If what they've created means something to them in a real, tangible way, the idea of selling the rights to that story for potentially as little as $200 a month might be entirely unbearable. If the story that they have is the only one inside them, giving it away just doesn't look like the best option. Maybe if they go their own way nothing would come of their work, but maybe something would and it would still be theirs.
If, however, the story they're writing is one of many fizzing around in their heads, of course, it matters to them, but it's more like a product than a passion, then what could be wrong with giving that product the best chance at exposure?
When it comes to my own Webnovel, It's certainly more of a passion to me than a product, that being said, it's a passion that I would like to do well. If and when the time comes that I'm offered a contract, I'll need to look deep inside of me to see if what I'm writing now is everything I have, the cumulation of all my imaginative potential. or whether it's something I can afford to sell because if the time comes when I truly want to go my own way, I have a ton of different stories inside of me that I can be just as passionate about.
My two pence on the matter
