DaoistNY82WR they're really bad. Don't take them unless you don't care about your work.

I'm a writer and I only open the app to check my notifications. Can you believe how disheartening it is to see 30 on the inbox and 20 of them are super gifts for other books?
Hey webnovel, stop being an asshole! I'm not signing your contract!- In Super gift
I've been receiving messages about the rewards other novels receive, why? I don't even read any of those. Is this a bug? Or is webnovel trying to show me how good their works are doing so I sell them mine?
AriaKang yeah I always see those people, always defending webnovel by trying to put down anyone who complains.
Like every time anyone dares to say the contract they offer is bad. Their argument is most of the time is that webnovel writers are nothing to brag about so they should just shut it while they get exploited, saying WB is doing them a favor.Directly support authors on webnovel!
Really? Are they seriously putting this?
So I've updated the app yesterday in preparation for an announcement on my book. Let's just say I told my readers they can get a better edited, more polished version of my work somewhere else, with a lot more content for their money than they would've gotten from locked chapters here plus being able to support me better than they would have had I taken the contract. But then I go and see that webnovel is now putting that phrase everywhere.
And as if that couldn't get worse, they're also putting ads that take up half the screen. On my uncontracted novel!
Even YouTube didn't get this low, making money from unmonetized content. But I guess I should've expected this much. They don't pay ad revenue to anyone, not even their contracted authors.
Hey webnovel, there is something called shame you know? Have you heard of it? How about you fix your predatory contracts first? And please stop using the authors to pressure readers into giving you money. You made it clear that they no longer own the rights to their works once they sign your contract, stop pretending that you care.
I'm sick of this. I will delete most of my work and only post the bare minimum. I feel bad for the few readers I had but this is becoming unbearable. Pretty sure this post will be deleted, not by me of course, but we will see. Have a nice day.Darth_Xiane they're doing text only content with low quality covers. That doesn't take much space. And with how much they charge for that content paying for server space isn't even near being a problem. Oh, and let's not forget they cut the hosting costs from what little they pay their writers.
OtherworldlyEggy they put them even on books that aren't contracted. They have no shame.
What is the fastest way to get the exclusive contract?
What are the conditions to be eligible for it?
Has there being any changes to it from the old ones? Or is it still the same?Is there really a point in this thread? I mean, do people visit it beside authors who want to promote their works?

Clay_Ann_Bual asking for opinions on contracts is meaningless. People who take them can't say anything bad about the company those who're considering to take it will tell you to read it carefully before deciding and those who turned it down will tell you it's horrible.
There is a blog post talking about A&D. It's the first thing that comes out when you Google the company's name. Read that and you'll know what to expect.Veronica8 your story didn't make it on WN and since you gave up the rights you can't take it anywhere else. That's the idea. They will take all rights for free and you receive nothing unless they earn something from it. If they don't then they can keep the rights even without paying you anything. If you look at it that way, Amazon kdp is the same except you get to keep the rights to your book and you can go sell it wherever you want.
fantasybliss30 it could, as long as you keep constant updates and high quality.
Darth_Xiane While this issue never came about, it was the scary wording of the contract which made people leery, much like the rumor (baseless) that original writers could have their book hijacked by the site if at any point they could not meet posting regulations. It was a silly rumor, but it DID make alot reconsider signing off their book on the fictious "what if".
It's not a rumor, it's written in the contracts(at least the nonexclusive one) and the problem people don't understand is that by giving them the rights you're giving them out for free. You won't get anything unless they start making money out of it which means you may never get anything from it if webnovel decides so. You can't make merch or print it, you can't sell ebooks. Some may say it's meaningless since unless it's making money then it's just sitting there, but what if one day you'd want to do something with the property? Also, the contract termination. Webnovel states several options for them to terminate the contract, but the authors don't have any of that. They state it at the very start that the contract is "irrevocable" afterall. And that's without mentioning the termination costs which are left for the authors to bear among other things.
I took a look at both the exclusive and the nonexclusive contracts (and funny enough, the exclusive one has much better terms, though they're still bad) and honestly what they offer is not worth it.Grand_Void_Daoist I see. Thanks for the advice!
Grand_Void_Daoist I tried but, there is no reply at all and it's been 2 month. Should i ask in the discord or something?
Grand_Void_Daoist I never received such contract. All I got was the hand us all rights to the work one.
So I just saw a notification in my inbox and while reading it I got excited, until I saw the rest of it. I'm talking about that event announcement which says something like "determine the next trending novel by yourself" at first just to follow it up with stuff about the trail reads.
I don't think I heard anything about webnovel suppressing uncontracted authors but I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing so. They're a business so promoting their contracted works is obvious, but recently I'm led to believe the only way for a novel to get in the higher ranks is by signing that contract.
The writing section which was one of the reasons this app became famous now only looks like a way for webnovel to fish for potential works to milk.
I don't think I've ever seen an uncontracted novel get in the top 200, which is probably why they decreased it from the 500 it was (you can't see the ranking of a novel unless it's within the top 200)
I know I know. Webnovel is a private company and for them profit comes first. But it kinda hurts that the only way for my book which has more than a 300k words while still at its beginning will never get much recognition unless I sign the "not horrible" contract they offered is quite discouraging. I know many feel the same and I wouldn't be surprised if many decided to sign because of that, I'm considering doing the same. But I just hate the fact that I have to sell my baby to them if I hope to ever grow on this platform.
What do you think? Did any of you feel the same at some point?melonbread the mod is gone for the time being if I remember right.
